Ok! Quick no ones in the kitchen! You thrust your palm forward towards the cooker to light it, a short burst of flames left your palm and exploded upon contact with the cooker, you flinched back slightly, bit too much heat on that one.
You relaxed and stepped forward again as the flames settled down under the metal top of the cooker, you always lit the cooker like this as it was much quicker than fiddling around with a flint and steel type lighter, the scouts needed to save money and matches were expensive and defiantly not reusable. A flint lasts much longer; the only problem is that it's very fiddly.
You were a fire bender, to your knowledge you were the only one within the walls. Outside the walls you couldn't be sure, but it was very unlikely. Most importantly it was a secret from everyone, nobody knew that you had this skill, it was a secret just between you and your parents of whom were dead.
So now it was just you on your own, with your well-kept secret. You could have told people, Erwin more specifically with his position in the scouts, but you were scared to tell him. You had not even told your boyfriend Levi, spending a lot of your time thinking about how you would actually tell him. But the fear stopped you, if word got out it would most likely mean your execution so they could study you, that's just what the MP's were like.
The door opened behind you and two people walked in "oh (Y/N), you're a real pro at lighting that stove."
You jumped and turned meeting Hange's eyes "oh hey Hange. Ummm yes well there a way to it you see." you scratched the back of your head awkwardly your eyes moving over to the second person to enter, desperately trying to change the subject.
"Oh and Eren too, how's everything with Hange going?" It was just a polite question to start a conversation you could already tell how the experiments were going by the haunted look on his face.
"Oh Miss (Y/N)... Training and experimenting is... is... good?" He was avoiding Hanges crazy piercing eyes.
"Please Eren, call me (Y/N) no need to add formalities. I'm not the captain you can speak to me normally." you smiled to him as a high pitch screech came from the kettle behind you.
"Oop!" You said out loud and spun around quickly taking the kettle off the heat.
"What's this? Making tea for shorty?" You laughed at Hange's rhetorical question as you made the tea, as Hange said, for Levi "you're awfully close with Mr grumpy pants..." Hange insinuated.
"Ha Ha Hange" you sarcastically said "now excuse me 'Mr grumpy pants' wants his tea and wants help with his paperwork... not very date like is it."
As you left you heard a 'bye' from Eren and a shout from Hange "I'll prove that you're dating!"
"No! You won't" You shouted back.
You and Levi were dating, but this was yet another secret you had, Hange was starting to catch on to your relationship though. She's so mad and eccentric it's very easy to forget how quick she was at catching onto situations, or noticing things, she was absolutely brilliant and you greatly respected her. But while you and Levi both still wanted it to be a secret, she would never find out.
You sighed, snuggling into your boyfriend's thighs. You were both in bed, Levi was sat up going through paperwork and you were lying with your head on his thighs, just resting your eyes. You yawned, you were very lucky that he was in bed in the first place, he'd usually just sleep at his desk. But not while you were around, that man would sleep comfortably on a bed and that was that.
A rough but gentle hand landed on your head and began stroking through your hair "what's up?" Is all he asked as the sound of pages could be heard.
"Just tired, was your tea ok" you asked peaking to open an eye.
"Yes, your tea is always good you don't have to keep asking and go to sleep if you're tired" the hand began massaging your head making you groan at the nice feeling "we have a mission tomorrow and I don't want you tired for it."
"I'm not sleeping until your do... otherwise you'll sneak away to your desk" you laughed.
"Don't say that you make me sound like a child" Levi grumbled.
"Then put your paperwork down and come to sleep with me" you smirked.
You heard a huff from above you, Levi was contemplating your words "fine..."
You laughed and rolled off him to the pillow so that Levi could put down his paperwork and slip fully into bed with you, your head then went to his chest one arm over his stomach, his arms wrapping around you.
"Forgot to put the candle out. Move one second" Levi's voice came over the room.
"Just leave it it'll go out eventually it's almost out anyway" you said and waved your hand behind you so that Levi couldn't see, moving the flame in a way that it wouldn't be able to hold its form, effectively putting it out "oh... see good timing from me" you laughed.
Levi just hummed "good night"
You clicked your tongue in the back of your mouth, mouth closed, out of boredom. You were currently sat on the back of your horse with the rest of the elected scouts for this mission, there were quite a few of you waiting to go and crowding the streets unintentionally pissing off the locals, you were close to the front as you were in your boyfriend's special operations squad. As for what you were waiting for, you were waiting for the walls gates to open.
You always had to wait to leave the walls, partly because of the news to clear the Titans outside, but also because you had to wait for the final checks and paperwork to go through. The garrison was useless, and this happened every time you wanted to leave the walls.
This clogging up the streets didn't improve the scout's image within the public, as they were disrupted from there day to day lives and making money, this was also probably a reason why the garrison held you up.
You felt a creepy stare from beside you and turned to the eyes that were at fault, Hange was staring at you... oh yes, I forgot she was in Levi's squad with me today... her squad was left behind on Titan guard duty, Hange had captured a Titan on the last expedition, which was a positive, but the negative to that situation was that you lost a lot of comrades to capture the Titan.
This meant that in the end you didn't have enough spare hands to watch the Titan while the rest of you left the walls, so Hange's squad was left behind as a substitute. Hange was important on the missions though so she could not afford to stay behind with her squad, so she was added to Levi's squad for the time being.
Speaking of who was left behind, Eren was also left behind. Partly to be part of the Titan guard but also because Hange had gone a bit mad with her experiments and the poor boy was in no shape to be fighting Titans today.
"What Hange?" You quirked an eyebrow.
"I'm watching you..." Hange whispered creepily, doing the I'm watching you motion with her free hand.
You rolled your eyes, you were going to respond but Erwin's call stopped you, it was time to leave the walls.
"Ambush!" Levi's voice filled all your ears, a frown of concentration coming to your face.
The Titans were directly in front of you and all had their eyes fixed in your group with murderous intent, this was going to be seriously dangerous, there was no getting out of this. If your ran, which you could easily do, the Titans would then fix on a less skilled squad and that would mean disaster for them. You would also seriously break the formation which would also put even more lives at stake.
"Send off the flair, they're abnormal's" Hange said from behind you a crazed look in her eye "and there are a lot of them... more than I have ever seen grouped together I need to write notes on this."
You want to write notes NOW! there practically on us right now write later, geez Hange. You caught Levi's eye as he glanced back to you with worry, he didn't want to lose you and you didn't want him to worry over you that could be his end as much as it could be yours, to send him a small smile telling him that you had this under control. This look back confirmed your suspicions, this was a serious situation more than the normal run of the mill abnormals your encountered.
Levi sent out his orders once he was satisfied "we have one objective. Take out all the Titans."
"Yes sir!" You all responded.
Jumping up from the saddle, you hooked into the nearest titian, and with a quick swing go and a precise and quick slice cut the Titan down, from the swing you were now high in the air and had a clear vantage point over the scene. There were more Titans than you had originally realised, a lot more. Even for the special operations squad you were all out of your depth.
You didn't have time to watch and had to go straight to slicing up the many Titans that were hungrily looking at you and your squad mates. But no matter how many you or your squad mates cut down there was always another Titan to replace it, even with Levi, humanities strongest can't keep going forever without refills. You were all running out of gas and blades, worse... there wasn't a support cart nearby.
You heard a sputter from the gas canisters at your waist just as the last of your blades shattered, you were falling having cut off your gas and then at the very last moment you used the last of that gas so that you didn't hit the ground too hard. You were forced to roll when you hit the floor so that you don't break a leg, this just further destroyed your gear, shit what the fuck do I do now. Panic settled in, your hands shook, and your breath quickened, the giant Titans were looming over you with victory. You were about to be ripped to shreds.
Around you your squad mates were also in similar situations, some moments away from being grabbed, your eyes flicked around the area desperately trying to find Levi in the chaos. You found Hange first she was the closest to you and was running for you, but the Titan chasing her was close, for the first time in a long while Hange had a scared look in her eye.
The whirl of emotions within you and the fear of watching your friends die pushed you to using your fire bending, fuck keeping It a secret it's the lives of my friends are more important right now. Remembering to keep yourself centred and calming the storm of emotions in you, you stepped forward two steps before thrusting your arms forward sending a powerful stream of fire into the Titans gaping mouth.
Exactly where you wanted it to go, the fire created a chain reaction within the already super-hot Titan, the chain reaction being an explosion. The Titan was obliterated nape and all, you didn't have time to stop and wait or stare at Hanges aghast face, Titans were all around you. Ok get rid of my own Titans first then help the others. There were still so many Titan so there was no way you could relax for a single second; you still hadn't spotted Levi and that was grating on you. But you couldn't focus on it, that would create turmoil within you and throw off your fire bending.
Black spots appeared in your vision, you were exhausted and dizzy, your energy completely spent. But you had destroyed all the Titans and saved your squad, but there was still no Levi, he can't have been eaten before you unleashed on the Titans couldn't he? The squad was all looking at you, astonishment clear in their faces, at this point everyone but you had relaxed.
You were still panicking about Levi, you went to take a step forward to look for him but your knees buckled, your words cut off "Lev-" a gasp leaving your lips instead of the panicked shout.
But you didn't hit the floor, two solid arms wrapping around your waist, your head turned to see the man that you were panicking about "Levi!"
You caught your footing and grabbed his face with both hands, without even thinking of your surroundings you pulled his face to yours and connected your lips, the relief your felt was other worldly. Your arms were tight around him, his were in your waist and it was only then that you realised his hands were skating and he was holding onto you just as tightly as you were holding him.
"I knew it!" Came a screech from nearby you, making you jump away from Levi.
Your eyes turned over to Hange, a victorious look in her face, oh shit... well that's the second secret and your relationship out of the bag. Levi still had a blank look on his face and was still holding onto you, tightly, with absolutely no intention to let go. The rest of the group had soon gathered around all eyes in you, no one speaking.
"So... how are you all? Any injuries?" You awkwardly started trying to change the subject from your relationship.
Hange ripped you from Levi's hands "forgot the injuries! What's with the whoosh whoosh fire?! You never told me about that?" Hange's eyes flicked to Levi... "did you tell your boyfriend?" She wiggled her eyebrows.
"I didn't tell anyone" you mumbled your eyes flirting back to Levi.
Levi didn't look angry for the moment though, just very confused, maybe he didn't see your 'whoosh whoosh fire' as Hange put it. But Hange shook you from looking at him "I have so much to do with you, so many experiments are waiting for you, I have to find out how you work"
You flinched and went to tell her no but Levi best you to it "no! Not happening! All of your keep this quiet, I will take (Y/N) to Erwin and discuss it with him. The rest of you keep your mouths shut until told otherwise, especially you shitty glasses"
Levi grabbed your bicep and pulled you back into his chest protectively. Your eyes looked to him, ok now he looks mad he must have seen you fire bending and realised what was going on. Some of that anger was clearly directed toward you which was fair, but you could tell that it wasn't all of it, the other part of his anger was at Hange wanting to experiment on you.
"Awe Levi please, (Y/N) can shoot fire from her hands, you have to let me experiment" Hange begged
"Never going to happen, mount your horse we're heading to the support truck. The mission isn't over, but this conversation is" Levi ended that conversation quick before leaning down to your ear "we're having a chat when we get back to my room"
It was gruff and definite, oh shit, that all that went through your mind. You nodded in understanding, you were going to have to tell him everything and now you wished you had told him sooner, at least then you could control some of what happened after it. But now that Levi and the squad had seen you, you could only expect anger, and the possibility that outsiders would hear.
After another quick warning from Levi to your squad mates about keeping your fire bending a secret, Levi dragged you all the way to his bedroom, slamming the door behind him. He pushed you forward and into the room, before folding his arms and leaning against the door, completely cutting off your escape with his own body. He stood silent and still like a statue, waiting for you to speak.
"First off... I'm sorry I didn't tell you about my fire bending that I have, I really wanted to and I promise I didn't have any ill intentions by keeping it a secret. I love you and I trust you I promise, I just didn't know how to tell you and the right time never came up, what if you left me and turned me into the MP's... I know you wouldn't but I couldn't help thinking this. It was a mistake on my part and I shouldn't have kept this from you." You met his eyes and laid you head out to him, everything you said was the truth, you had to tell him the truth otherwise you'd have no chance of convincing him.
You heard him sigh "brat" Levi got up from the door "I'm not angry now that I know why you didn't tell me I understand your fear. But from now on your better tell me any secrets you have, I'm your boyfriend for fuck sake there shouldn't be anything hidden between us"
"Agreed" you smiled "i promise from now in I'll tell you everything... also Hange knows we're together. That's also my fault sorry about that as well"
"Fuck" Levi whispered "we'll deal with her later, Erwin is the first place we have to go we have to prepare for this to get out. If Erwin is prepared your protected so talking to him is top priority"
You laughed "we should let the men rest first, we can tell him in the morning, we also need our rest"
"Your not running from it are you?" You felt him squeeze your hands as if trying to stop you from running
"No I'm not . Everyone's exhausted, I promise in the morning we'll go straight to Erwin" you smiled finally pulling Levi into a deep and passionate kiss one that both of you needed to calm your racing hearts.
