“We can head out as soon as you’re done,” Natsu said, even as he wiggled to get more comfortable. He tilted his head back.
Lucy and Happy shared a glance.
“You sure?” Lucy asked with a cocked eyebrow as she hunched over her food like a goblin. “You’re looking a little cozy, there.”
“Hm? Nah,” Natsu mumbled, even as his eyes drooped shut. “Just restin’.”
“First you’re not hungry, and now you want to rest?” Happy threw his paws up. “Who even are you?!”
Natsu just hummed again, and his face gradually relaxed as his head slowly slid to the side to hang awkwardly on his scarf. She and Happy shared a look again, and she giggled quietly.
In sharp contrast, Lucy was buzzing with energy. She had half a mind to scout ahead, but found she didn’t want to leave her team on their own with a mad Mama around. Plus, one look at his hurt shoulder and the bruises dappling his torso had an invisible thread tugging her towards him.
So instead, she licked her fingers clean and shuffled to come next to Natsu against the tree. Happy grinned and hopped right onto her warm lap, and she titled Natsu’s head as carefully as she could onto her shoulder.
“’M not’sleep,” Natsu mumbled.
“Uh-huh.”
“We’re leavin’ in a minute…” His voice was trailing away…
“Sure thing.” She threaded her fingers into his soft hair.
It was the final blow.
A tiny, soft snore ran up to her ears, and she smiled.
Been a while since I’ve done just some sketches. This is them when they were young, best friends, and a little scuffed up in the war. I think the Blonde/Nara friendships run deep. Hope you all have a wonderful week! More art coming too 😘
