So this seems dumb…and it is…but it’s dumb with a purpose. I can almost guarantee you the exact line of reasoning that gets NASA engineers to 100.
Ok, first of all assume the worst and assume she needs the max amount of tampons possible for all days. Now lets count it up.
7 days? Better be safe and make it 10.
3 tampons a day at worst? Better be safe and make it 5.
So that gives us 50 tampons. Ok. Double it.
And that’s how you get 100.
It’s ridiculous, but NASA has a culture of “overengineer absolutely everything to do with human safety, and then design around it” which is actually pretty cool.
Listen, I know this gets made fun of so much, but like I am a woman who has periods and I have absolutely no idea how many tampons a woman requires in a week. I use primarily pads. But these men, at the least, ASKED her instead of making unfounded assumptions.
Which would you rather be:
A. The NASA Director Who Sent Too Many?
B. The NASA Director Who Didn’t Send Enough?

How to Write a University-level Essay
Heyo, so school is fast approaching, and seeing as Tumblr is made up of a lot of younger users who will soon be shipping off to college or university soon, I thought I would take it upon myself to help spread my knowledge of essay-writing. Essay-writing is my thing. I love it. I live for it. It’s how I make up for my shitty test marks, and still get by with an 85 average+ in University classes. I’m a historian by trade, so perhaps this information will seem a bit off from what you’re used to, but hopefully, It’ll help you out. If you have any questions, feel free to shoot me an ask.
1. Consider your question and find your thesis.
I know, I know. People always say, no! Never start with your thesis/intro paragraph! Go to the body!! Well i’m here to say forget everything you’ve been told. Forget that, forget the stupid hamburger shit they teach you, forget it all and start reading.
I ALWAYS start with my thesis. Why? Because you cannot make good paragraphs without knowing what you’re researching. You need direction, and a thesis is your map.
So, the question we’ll use shall be: What is one way in which the Union won the American Civil War?
Now remember, your thesis is your map. It shows you where to go, what to look for. The thesis is the heart and soul of all your work. You want a good, solid thesis. What does that include, you ask?
An idea
A reason for said idea
Evidence to support said reason, and thus validate the idea.
So, lets do an example. Let’s say I’m writing on the use of media during the American Civil War. I like photography, and wrote a paper on this in my second year, but im gonna be doing this example freehand(idk where I put that essay lol) so lets work with how I got an A+ on that paper. This will be my idea:
“Photography during the American Civil War influenced the war’s outcome in the Norths favour.”
This is VERY vague. This is an example of a thesis in bloom! Let’s take it further. Look at the above. What questions would you have from this thesis?
-Who was taking photos at that time?
-Why did it influence the outcome?
-How did it influence the outcome?
-Who consumed photography as a media at that time?
This is where you STOP, and start the next step.
2. Research
Start your basic research with your idea, and the above questions in mind. Look at libraries, ask your professor or TA or librarian, or just do some basic google searches to get to know the subject(but for the love of god if you include a google link in your citation I will personally hunt you down and castrate you.)
I like to start with the basics of any inquiry: WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHEN, WHY, HOW. Who was taking photos? Where were they displayed that caused influence? ect…These, in relation to your beginner thesis, will help guide you in what form your thesis will take.
Once you’ve finished that, and have a general feel for the time period, go back to your thesis.
3. THESIS 2.0
Go back to your original question: What is one way in which the Union won the American Civil War? Now look at your thesis again. It’s too vague, isn’t it?
As you can see, our original thesis was too vague to be a real thesis. So, we NARROW IT DOWN using our WWWWWH progress we focused on during early research!
“Photography during the American Civil war influenced the war’s outcome by providing a visual for ordinary citizens about the horrors of war, and thus helping to increase donations and awareness to the cause.”
Great! But once again, too vague! Questions that may arise include:
Who was taking the photos
Evidence for donations?
Evidence for social awareness?
So, we NARROW IT DOWN again. I’m going to use Andrew Gardner’s photography during the Civil war, as he was one of the most famous and influential at the time.
“Andrew Gardner’s photography during the American Civil war influenced the war’s outcome by providing a visual for ordinary citizens about the horrors of war, and thus helping to increase donations and enlistment in the Union through awareness to the cause…”
The above then gives us the following(why and how are sometimes grouped together):
Who: Andrew Gardner
What: Photography helped the north win the war.
Where: Union-aka northern states
When: American Civil War
Why/How: Because Andrew Gardner’s photography raised social awareness through this new and budding medium
Use this sort of outline to guide you in the next step!
4. Now that we have a thesis, you need to do some more research and evidence gathering.
The way I like to do this is to go check out a few books from the library(look for text books in particular), and leaf through the index for matching terms. Our matching terms would be:
Photography, civil war, Andrew Gardner, media
From there, you read over the pages, and see if any of the info relates to your subjects. Copy down quotes, page numbers, book title, author, publishing date and publisher. You need these for your bibliography. Pick and choose relevant information. The filter for relevant information relies entirely on your thesis, because it decides what you need to be looking for—this is why I hate when people tell me to start writing paragraphs before I write a thesis! It’s simply impossible and counter productive, and will cost you hours in revision.
So, gather your information from the library, and cross-reference with peer-reviewed articles and data. For our thesis, we would need data on enlistment numbers in an area after a date of Andrew Gardner’s photography exhibit showcases. No matter what type of essay you’re writing, you can always back up your evidence with data, and it won’t hurt one bit. Don’t be afraid of the numbers, kids!
So, if we were to go back to our thesis, we could now expand on it like this:
“Andrew Gardner’s photography during the American Civil war influenced the war’s outcome by providing a visual for ordinary citizens about the horrors of war, and thus helping to increase donations and enlistment in the Union through awareness to the cause. An increase in donations and enlistment in relation to exposure to Gardners work is seen in data/evidence point A, as well as in data/evidence point B, which will be fully outlined in the points below.”
This gives you an example of how to lead from a thesis, to your opening paragraph.
5. Data and Evidence Justifications–Paragraph making
This is the section where you can branch your essay into your data and evidence points you gathered in steps 2 and 4. You can have as many paragraphs as you like, just make sure your evidence and data is strong and supported. I personally like to work with my thesis copied and pasted onto the top of every page I write on. This keeps you on track, with your clear goal in mind, and will help you from straying. I will give you an example of how a paragraph might sound.
Andrew Gardner’s photography during the American Civil War became heavily influential upon the American population at the time, particularly the north, wherein which his work was showcased. The influence of Gardner’s photographic works is seen in the _____, which shows us that without the influence of Gardner’s media influence, war efforts and awareness may not have been as successful as they had been.
This is an alright opener for you to work with. The ___ is where you could put in your data point or evidence piece. The point of the paragraph is to show your support for your thesis by confirming it with evidence.
Your paragraphs should take this form:
Present, Confirm, Conclude, Lead.
You present your evidence, confirm its relation to the thesis and confirm the validity of the thesis, conclude by brief revision of evidence, and then lead into your next paragraph.
6. Conclusion
Your conclusionary paragraph should be a look-over of the above paragraphs. Restate your thesis, present a summarized version of your paragraphs(one or two sentences only), and perhaps take the time to look at your own views on the subject. An example might look like this:
“Taking a moment to step away from the above mentioned evidence, I believe it to be scholarly acceptable and even necessary to state my own views on the subject presented. In drawing conclusions, I felt that the above information was correct in that it presented a reality of the time period, in which photography was becoming a medium to be embraced by popular society. People were not only astounded by Gardner’s photographs on a social level, but also a technical level. The astonishment people held at seeing the war-torn battle fields spurred them into action, and even today can still present feelings of dread, fear and loss when looking at his photos…blah blah blah”
Why is it scholarly acceptable and perhaps necessary to state your views? Oftentimes, it is to reassure the reader of your own personal bias’, which exist whether you like them or not, to the subject at hand. Having a small tidbit on your own thoughts about your research ect, breaking away from the third-person droning of an essay can be refreshing and welcoming for a prof at the end of his stack of essay reading.

All in all, do unique things. Professors love it when they come across something that’s not cookie cutter! Even if they present you with a list of essay topics, take the leap and ask them if you can do your own research topic!! Take risks with your essay writing, talk to your professors about what you want to do, and try to have fun with your research. I’ve written on everything from civil war photography to Disney princesses in american media, to the religious formation of idea of heaven and earth. Remember, so long as there’s credible, documented evidence, it’s possible to write about it.
I've noticed how Tumblr seems to be dying and I don't understand why. People stoped reblogging and posting and this used to be my absolute favorite website for fun, information and general content... Is it dying because of lack of motivation caused by stealing assholes or because people aren't engaging (if this is the case, why)? This was the best place for fandoms for so long, but nothing ever happens here anymore. And I refuse to go to Twitter, because it is so fucking toxic. Help. Whyyy
Hey anon. I believe there are many factors that have contributed in people not posting as much as they used to on Tumblr. It’s either one of these factors, a mixture of two or three factors or in some cases for content creators all four factors have taken place.
Firstly, we had the censorship purge last year, where Tumblr started flagging nearly every other post as inappropriate even when half of those posts weren’t even nsfw. Many tumblr accounts don’t show up in searches anymore, even though they are still active. This is all because they post nsfw content. A lot of content creators that primarily wrote smut decided to leave Tumblr last year and many never came back.
Secondly, a lot of content creators started noticing their work being reposted on other websites. These creators were not given any credit. In fact the reposters claimed the work as their own. This happened to every kind of content creator on here. Fan made videos, fancams, photos, gifs, fanart and fanfics were all getting reposted on websites such as YouTube, Wattpad, DeviantArt, etc. Unfortunately it is happening all over again for gif makers, where their gifs are being reposted on Twitter. We’ve lost a lot and are still losing many content creators due to this issue.
Thirdly, when Tumblr originally turned from a photography and art website into a website for various fandoms, people interacted with posts a lot more. Before I became a KPOP account, I used to be a part of Supernatural, Teen Wolf, Dr. Who, Sherlock and Harry Potter fandoms. I remember that any post that was either a fanfic, gifset or fanart used to gain more reblogs than likes back then. People used to reblog every single post they enjoyed seeing on Tumblr. Content creators were used to having their posts be reblogged by followers, which automatically meant that more people saw their content. In the last 2-3 years, posts hardly get any reblogs. People tend to hit the like button and move on to the next post on their dashboard. The main reason why content creators were drawn to Tumblr in the first place, was the REBLOG button. Every time someone hits the reblog button on a post, that post gets shared to that person’s followers. In other words, new people are seeing this content. When a content creator’s followers only hit the like button, no one new sees that post.
I’m a fanfic writer myself and I don’t even mind if people decide no to give me any feedback on my content. However, the least people can do is hit the reblog button. I have zero motivation to continue writing on Tumblr. The last chapter I posted for my fanfic Queen of Jeju ( back in April 2019) has 29 notes in total. 19 people liked that post and out of those 19 people only 3 decided to reblog it. The rest of the 7 reblogs were done by me. For a long time I kept telling myself that the reason I’m finding it so hard to post any new content is because I have writer’s block. I finally admitted to myself that the real reason I haven’t posted anything new on Tumblr since April is because hardly anyone reblogs my content. When someone likes my post, but decides not to reblog it, it makes me think that okay this person liked reading what I wrote. However, my writing wasn’t good enough to be shared with this person’s followers and that is why they never reblog my content. If my content is not good enough to be shared (reblogged), then why should I even post it in the first place.
Lastly, content creators started receiving asks and dms where people began to rudely demand for new content. Content that has always been free on this website. Gif makers started receiving asks where people demanded them to create gifs of their favourite idols at a faster pace, not realising or appreciating the fact that it takes at least 2 hours for someone to create a HD quality gif. Fanfic writers started receiving asks where people demanded updates for chaptered fics and also ‘requests’ for new fics when their account description clearly states that they are not taking requests at that time. If that wasn’t bad enough content creators started receiving asks and dms where people began to spew hate towards them because the content creator was either too slow at updating or because they didn’t create content about certain KPOP artists, ships or specific genres/themes.
If people want content creators to stay on Tumblr, then they need to treat them with kindness and respect. People also need to show content creators their appreciation, since we post content for free. We specifically take time out of our own busy lives to create content that is absolutely free to consume. In other words, content creators on Tumblr don’t get paid for their work, yet people still treat them like shit.
Only liking posts is killing the fandom community. It really doesn’t take long to leave one sentence on a post, or even reblog it!
This reply is so on point and people need to stop sleeping on their creators or else they may lose them.
Preach
as we move into the new year and new decade, please keep this in mind. this is not instagram. content on tumblr is not meant to be consumed, liked, and then forgotten–it is meant to be shared. it is meant to be interacted with. if you want there to continue to be content for you to consume, then you need to do your part as well.
you need to reblog content, not simply like.
if for some reason you’re shy about sharing certain content, this next one is still for you: you need to interact with content creators. tell them what you liked about it–it doesn’t even have to be in depth, and often, it can even be on anon, so there’s really no excuse! you may think your voice doesn’t matter, but i’m here to tell you that’s not true–we love hearing from you, and your note of encouragement is often all that keeps us going. even if your form of interaction is simply reblogging content and screaming in the tags–i love that shit, and i read every word.
you need to stop assuming you’re entitled to free content. content creators do this in their free time, often between work, or school, or family/friends responsibilities. don’t pester people for updates, don’t repost their content. tl;dr don’t be a dick.
you need to do all of these things. otherwise, content creators will leave and take their shit with them 🤷🏽♀️we do not enjoy working hard for days, months, only to simply toss it into a void, subsequently get literally nothing out of it, and then be expected to do it all over again. content is posted for free, and the least you can do is interact.
please support your content creators

This speech-language pathologist taught her dog 29 words, and he can even form full sentences.
Video by Christina Hunger
Dogs actually do have a language center in their brains. They process language just the same way we do, just not as well.
They do understand our words. This is not true of all domesticated animals (horses, for example, can only manage to distinguish a relatively small number of spoken commands…but boy do they know what you’re really saying).
They don’t understand “just your tone of voice” as a lot of people think.
As of 2016 the record vocabulary for a dog demonstrating understanding of words is over 1,000.
So if you give them a way to talk back, they’re going to use it.
The development of language skills is probably a side effect of domestication and of being kept in close contact with humans. A dog that was a better hunting partner would be kept and bred and over time they developed a better understanding of language.
In other words, dogs are pretty dang smart because we need them to understand us.
And also that is a very good boy.
Very curious doggo
Reminder that puffins are extremely social and like to fit in with their friends, so they will adopt mannerisms and interests of the group. So there is a good chance this little guy is trying to be friends with the photographer by showing his interest in the camera.
TIL photographers are a lot like puffins, cuz we also make friends by showing interest in your camera XD
Reminds me of the time researchers were trying to get puffins to land in a specific area so the put decoys up to draw them in but the decoys only had 1 leg and

Commissions Are Open!
I’m excited to announce that I am going to be starting to take drabble commissions on my brand new [Commiss.io account]! I have three tiers of length for different prices. 500 - 700 words starts at $13, 800 - 1000 words starts at $20, and 1500 - 1700 words starts at $35. Slots are limited for each tier as I am just starting out with this and don’t want to end up having more than I can handle at the start off. You will be able to view in each listing the fandoms and characters currently available and these lists may be changed/updated so check back frequently. These commissions are also pay what you want so you are free to offer more for a commission but it will not move you up in my workload. Commiss.io also does a cool thing that allows creators to be tipped, so if you would not like a commission you are free to send me a tip through there rather than ko-fi or paypal.
It is my hope to be able to keep this going for an extended period of time although I will no longer be labeling these commissions as “emergency commissions” because I am currently trying to work out how is the most effective way to either get out of my current job or contacting HR to see if I can get them to look into and fix things and I don’t know how long that will take me so I am stable for the moment. If that does change, I will make an announcement.
Thank you guys so much for my support in trying this out and to some friends in particular for giving me really good tips on how to get started.
Please remember that commissions are a luxury product, if you do not feel like you can afford a commission do not get one. I don’t want anyone going broke.
Update since I’ve gotten a few questions: if you request a project on my commiss.io you will NOT immediately be charged. I will review the request and we can discuss what you would like then once we get to a sense of understanding I will send a prompt for payment and start your project. If you decide while we are discussing you would no longer like a project you can cancel and you will not be charged as long as the project has not been started yet. Requesting a project will simply save you a listing spot since they are limited. Thank you to those who have expressed interest! I really appreciate it!! If you have any questions feel free to DM me or send me an ask.
Update 2: These are still open, and will be for a while. I’m a bit slower than I’d like to be since I’ve been having medical issues. But those issues are also keeping me from being able to work my actual job as much as usual so signal boosts/tips are appreciated!
I’m also considering opening new listings to write specifically about people already developed OCs in their own world or a pre-existing one. If anyone would be interested in those let me know!
update : rambling thanks
a lot of good friends have deactivated in the past 2-3 years... (i have been inactive so idk why or where they went...) esp after tumbly went downhill and honestly not many will read this either, i’m expecting 2 people maximum to see this rn 😂 but if any old mutuals or followers do search for me in the future, maybe they’ll see this! It’s just a long rambling of how the time here affected my life 😅 MysMe had been a turning point in my life, the way I see it... The game itself was a way to distract me from my grieving, loneliness and many other struggles that had suddenly come all at once. Many of my mutuals are familiar with the game - we had to play everyday in order to unlock endings. The game took my mind off all the painful things in my life that I didn’t know how to deal with. Thank you @cheritz. It helped me get closer with a friend, and she introduced me to tumbly which she had been very active on back then... i still didnt use it much but after finishing all Mysme’s happy endings, I wanted more of their stories. I stumbled upon the headcanons & fics on tumbly and soon joined @/mysme-fics to write my own... I became good friends with them over time (we still talk frequently today). The readers who enjoyed my writing, left comments/tags and kind messages in the inbox also cheered me up a lot. The community was really warm back then ☺️ Joining the @zenfanzine was also fun. We no longer stay in touch (although I’ve maintained a good friendship with one writer!) but the first few months had been filled with joy, games and silliness. I also adopted a flirty personality, whatwith all the Zen talk 😂 And that fed into my real life as well... i’d jokingly flirt with that irl tumbly friend, and then with other friends... I think I started to brighten up more in my irl social life as well (context: i’d transferred schools and i’d been too sad & grieving a lot and didnt have the heart to socialize, but naturally i’m actually probably quite extroverted 😅) And then the following school year... i don’t even know what happened but somehow I made more (close) friends?? And there was a really nice guy who I thought I could like but even when he asked me out twice I felt like I didn’t want to date him and so I didn’t respond to how he felt... for months... (but my dumbass still thought i liked him lmao uh) Instead i got to know his friend, and when we started to really talk and know each other, i realized i really enjoyed talking to him and being with him. And for the first time, I wanted to date someone (specifically him). That was over a year ago, and I’ve probably never been happier. (The kid me was probs quite happy too, I’m guessing.) He supports me in so many ways that you’d get tired of me listing everything... and he’s also brightened up my household— learned games to play with my family & spends a lot of time with us & helping with chores... and his parents are also cool with our relationship (which i struggled with in my first & previous relationship)... and the communication is great (a reason i was attracted in the first place) and he always demonstrates that he means what he says. And we’ve basically never fought... we always talk things out and theres never been yelling or guilt tripping or ignoring or other things that happened a lot with my ex.... And i just felt happier. So i could be nicer to those around me and expand my social circles even more, regain my confidence, regain some strength... Even if he and i end one day, i’ll always be grateful for the light he brought into my & my family’s lives. Though i hope there’s no end to us. But point is i think it was all a chain reaction. Ofc there were other influencing factors but mysme & tumbly were large ones. And a lot of the people who were there, helping me on this path, didnt even know the difference they made in my life. Nothing is perfect and there’s still a lot to struggle with... but i do know i’m in a better (mental) place than a few years ago... and it’s thanks to those i encountered here 😊 2019/10/22 R.I.
