Grab the hand of the person you reblogged this from to join in a Horah! The more that join, the further our dance will reach around the earth, eventually spanning far enough to embrace the whole of creation, hand in hand in simcha and song.

feeling especially angry with people saying israel is ānazisā. iāve been thinking a lot about the fact that, before israeli independence, jews were singing hatikvah in the gas chambers. im thinking about the fact that ānever againā was originally a phrase specific to the holocaust and to jewish people and it was taken and used for any political cause possible and now we canāt even use it for ourselves. iām thinking about the fact that our suffering is being weaponized against us because we dared to fight back and create a world where we could maybe possibly just once be able to protect ourselves and each other the next time someone wants to kill us all.

Seestück (Gegenlicht), Gerhard Richter. 1969
RIP Marjane Satrapi, author of the amazing graphic novels Persepolis about living during the fundamentalist revolution in Iran in the 70ās and 80ās. She also created the animated movie based on the graphic novels, which is where these gifs come from.

Reblogging in honor of Marjane Satrapi, one of THE great graphic novelists. Her comic Persepolis was a crucial text for shaping my belief that comics can deeply explore identity, culture, politics, and history.
