“Just… breathe slow,” he said softly when she tried to speak at first, keeping his hand on her back and waiting for her cue to pick her up. He didn’t trust her getting up on her own, regardless of how lesser the pain had become, how normalized her voice was for the moment. She was trying to appear as though she wasn’t in the same amount of pain as before, trying to appear as though she didn’t need as much help as he was certain she needed, but he didn’t believe that for a second. Not even a little bit. And so he gave her an attempt at a small smile when she turned onto her back, crouching down and hooking an arm under her shoulders and knees each before picking her up.
“You’re still way too sick to be in air, aren’t you? Stubborn little lion,” he attempted to joke, brooms and quaffle alike forgotten on the pitch as he started out of the area, toward the castle. He wanted to pretend she wasn’t as bad off as she was, wanted to pretend she was in better shape and he wasn’t partially to blame for the current condition of one of his players. As long as she wasn’t even worse off than she’d been before, then he couldn’t be that angry at himself, could he? “I’m inclined to think you might have done this just to get a bridal carry, though. This is a rare gift, you know, beautiful.”
She nodded to his advice, trying to take a deep breath, which in turn made another sharp pang pass her body. Okay, so shallow breathing it was but she needed to calm down a bit. She was not alone, at least, Cyg was here and he’d help her get to Pomfrey and Merlin knew Pomfrey could fix everything really fast, no doubt. Not that Aurora was that sick to begin with, right? It was just the flying had amplified her symptoms was all. With a bit of luck, she’d be good for the game. It was possible too - stomach bugs were not particularly hard to cure. Yet at the back of her mind there was this small voice telling her she had never ever gotten one before and that her stomach was basically as strong as it got. But that voice was temporarily told to zip it.
“Like captain, like team”, she attempted to joke, rolling her eyes a little with a small smile. He was playing with hurt ribs again, probably, but he was not giving up so she felt kind of bad she couldn’t follow his example. It was really characteristic of her to give up but this time it was out of her control whether she could play or not, and honestly, she absolutely hated it and would be really upset about it had the pain in her stomach not occupied the good bit of her mind. “Oh? Thanks, my kind Sir. Though if you’re planning to pop the question, now’s not the time, you see.” Yes! She almost got that to sound joking as if everything was fine. Progress!
