Steve Harrington being adorable + an angry asshole
billy doesn’t know how to initiate or ask for hugs. the only person he hugs is max but she’s always the one to hug him first. other than her, it was always his mom. no one brings the same warmth and comfort and feeling of being protected like she did.
post s3 no one really hugs him. they tried to when he first woke up in the hospital, again when he got released but he would flinch. make himself smaller and unconsciously back away. he wasn’t ever really ready for any touch or hugs yet.
after starcourt he’s living with joyce and the first few months were rough. he kept trying to isolate himself in his room, laying down and sleeping all day, making as little noise as possible when he did leave the room when he thought (hoped) everyone was asleep. she had to check on him multiple times a day, make sure he was awake and eating. it gets better after. he starts helping her make dinner, does chores around the house, sits with them during meals.
he hadnt realized that the line between “mom” and “joyce” had become blurry. and now all he really wants is a hug from the woman who he sees as another mom (because no one can replace his mom despite how hard he tries.) at first he would raise his hands a little but then let them drop back down to his sides. he would dig his nails into his palms whenever he saw her hug jonathan or will. sometimes he hugs himself, arms around his middle. it wasn’t the same.
one day while they were cooking he just. took one step closer to joyce. then another. caught her attention as he took the third step into her personal space. hesitated before he leaned down and buried his face into her shoulder. his hands are clenched at his sides as he shuts his eyes tightly, preparing for rejection. his breath hitches when he feels joyce immediately wrap her arms around him, tight and protective. he kinda breaks after that. becomes dead weight in her arms as he leans against her, letting her hold him up while he lets out a strangled sob into her shoulder. feels bad for this poor tiny woman holding him up as he cries like a kid.
jonathan finds them a little later sitting on the floor, joyce leaning back against the cabinets with billy curled up beside her, arms around her middle and head on her stomach, eyes shut and cheeks wet as she runs one hand through his hair and the other rubbing up and down his back. the food is long forgotten on the stove.
everyone starts to hug him a little more after that.

Okay this book that I made? Some people mentioned that they mgiht want one, and as I do not feel comfortable selling them (they’re mighty silly, and each book is like 32 dollars to order which is insane for silly doodles), I figured I’d just put the pdf up here, so whoever wants one, can order one themselves (for personal use, of course).
