Just read volume one of this, and honestly, even if some have cons about this series, I will say that I'm happy that my "younger self" has representation in a comic universe. Even though, at times, the story didn't feel SUPER thought out, the little kid in me still enjoyed reading it. I'm willing to continue going along with it, if not just for the friendship between Lunella and DD (It was my dream as a kid to have a huge creature as my bff, so sue me...) 7/10 What do you think? A reliquary I made to house Lux Alptraum’s retired IUD (That’s her in the last photo!)

The hollowed out book I commissioned from Sleepy Hollowed Books and the rest I assembled from my collection of fancy papers, cardboard from an empty box of wine, and a lotta glue. And Lux’s IUD, obviously.

Incredibly, this is not the first IUD reliquary I’ve made! The first was for my own, after it served a full decade inside my womb and now lives on as a pretty (ridiculous) little art piece on a shelf in my living room.

Someone asked me why people would feel the need to keep and memorialize their IUDs when we would never do that for, say, braces. I don’t know how to explain it very well, but… I’m so grateful to that little doodad.

My IUD granted me bodily autonomy, it let me pursue the life I wanted to create. That little guy gave me ten years of freedom. And, of course, the biggest difference between a birth control device and other medical aids is that lawmakers aren’t fighting to block access.

So making a reliquary for a retired IUD isn’t just about being grateful for the freedom it granted, but appreciating we had access at all.

Plus, the simple, little IUD “T” shape lends itself really well to being part of a larger art piece!

I’ll be honest, if I had time to take on commissions, I would love to do more of these. Haha, maybe I can start a little hobby making IUD reliquaries after I retire.

To those who are losing a lot of their will to create in the wake of President Tyrant: Don’t let him and his orcs win. People NEED your books, stories, poems, paintings, jewelry, dolls, knitting, tapestries, vases, weaving, dishes, every creation that comes from your hands. Every creation is a punch back at the haters and the heartless. Every word puts hope or thought or dreams or solace or fire into those who read it. You become a different voice from the bullyraggers and the foolish; your ideals, wishes and convictions reach your audience, whether they are reading Dr. Seuss or James Joyce. You convey food for hope and imagination whether you realize it or not, and the most innocuous-seeming work gives those who partake of it something to go on with. Keep soldiering on. Comedian or philosopher, baker or glassblower, writer of tomes or fan fiction, you’re needed now more than ever.
