the braided mustache does seem a bit out of place in zeffs design like a gruff, ex-pirate, no-nonsense chef akin to gordon ramsey and then you just have his braidstache

im a huge fan of sanji fell first, zoro fell harder even though its usually the other way around, it just hits different

like cmon the scene where sanji was yelling at zoro to throw away his dreams, that was basically a confession even though they barely knew each other at that point

zoro, for the most part, is completely oblivious to sanjis crushing, i mean who wouldnt be with all the kicking and screaming that the cook does

plus, hes still so focused on his goal of becoming the worlds greatest swordsman after that bitter defeat at the baratie, he doesnt really notice sanjis desperate pining

its to the point where sanji kind of gives up actively pursuing him, cuz hes obviously not interested, so he plays up the womanizer flirt to the max which annoys the shit out of zoro

i think thriller bark is when things really take a turn and zoro sees sanjis utter devotion to luffy by offering himself up, it makes him fall head over heels

unfortunately they both have an unorthodox way of crushing: pulling pigtails, which is why they never officially get together until a WHILE into the future cuz theyre dumb as shit

my favorite came-out-of-nowhere ship in one piece is zeff/sora like something about it hits so different and i gobble up all the fics and fanart, i feel like they would bond over the fact that they both love sanji and they have an implicit trust in each other to do whats best for him

so you know how zeff says to sanji “you can walk right back into the ocean for all i care” after sanji threatens to walk? yeah i think about that line a lot and specifically the way zeff says back. he doesn’t just say sanji can walk into the ocean, he says he can walk back into the ocean. it’s such a simple distinction but it holds so much meaning because, for all intents and purposes, sanji came from the ocean, from that storm and that rock. that single word signifies that whatever happened before, whatever sanjis life was before, doesn’t matter to zeff and it never will because well, why would it? zeff doesn’t give a damn about his past, for all he cares this kid and responsibility for him was chucked at him by the waves of that storm 9 years ago and that was that. and as for sanji? yeah it’s even more meaningful. in his own words: “13 years ago, vinsmoke sanji escaped the kingdom of germa and died at sea”. vinsmoke sanji died and the person he is now, the one who was shaped by zeffs guidance was born. the sanji we see really did come from the ocean, from a random part of the east blue that carried the ship that took him away from germa. it was because of that ocean and that ship that he was able to live the life he deserved and be the man he was supposed to be.

Sanji who doesn’t realize he has to come out because … he thought it was pretty obvious he was bisexual.

He didn’t have to come out at the Baratie, they all knew because they were there when he hit puberty and started chasing anyone who’d give him any attention.

He didn’t have to come out to Luffy, he seemed to have some sort of 6th sense on collecting only queer crew members

He didn’t have to come out to Nami, she cornered him the second day after Arlong Park to confirm her gaydar suspicions.

He didn’t have to come out to Usopp, he and Nami tell each other everything, so obviously if Nami knows he’s bi, Usopp knows.

He just kind of assumed everyone knew. They get knew crew members, they get separated, they get back together, he doesn’t think he needs to come out because who wouldn’t know.

So he’s left in a weird situation when he realizes Zoro thinks he’s straight. They’d been at a bar with some of the crew and some random asshole (ugly, stinky, rude, not worth his time) had come up to hit on him when he heard Zoro make some snide comment about people always hitting on their only straight crew member. Usopp just looks confused, Nami is collecting money from Franky, Robin just looks like she’s finally getting to the good part of a book, and Sanji just ignores the guy and stares at Zoro.

Didn’t he notice the energy between him and Ace? Apparently not. He wasn’t there for Pedro, so that makes sense. Only Luffy really got the Gin thing, that’s fair. He thought the tension with Law was palpable but not enough to get through moss covered brains. He’s never discreet about his feelings for women but he isn’t as obvious about men…

So that’s why at age 22, Sanji has to (for the first time ever) “come out” even though he was never really in a closet to begin with.

Zoro POV: why am I so into the only straight guy on our crew
