Very powerful.
At the top of Fløien/Fløyen -- one of the highlights of my Norway/Berlin trip so far. So appreciative to @janksuper for taking me here! #kentuckianinnorway
More of Finse. Star Wars was filmed here, and I see why. #kentuckianinnorway #finse #norway #norge
The Finse stop from the Bergensbanen. Unbelievable! #kentuckianinnorway
Hurra! I got to meet the one and only @janetmock! I could barely talk, not from just having so much to say, but because of tonsilitis, but she was just as fabulous and sweet in person. So glad I got to tell her how much she and the work she does for the #trans community, specifically trans women of color, is so meaningful and how her journey has had an impact on me. Another dream realized! And a huge debt of gratitude to the LGBT Center at the University of Louisville for organizing an amazing pride week and securing Janet as the keynote speaker! #girlslikeus #lgbt #uofl #louisville #janetmock
Disclaimer: I have never posted a photo like this, ever! But, I had a moment of excitement when trying on clothes today, and I wanted to document it (bright pink underwear and all). I'm happy with my weight-loss from earlier this year and pleased to see the results that have remained. (Now, if I turn to the side and suck in my stomach, I can "pretend" I have abs -- haha)! #selfie #gay #weightloss
Had a really awesome #selfiefest with a really awesome exhibit at Swanson Contemporary. #art #louisville
Hi friends and #IGers: I've started a new photo campaign called Respect All Russian Lives to show support for our LGBTQ russian brothers and sisters in light of the country's current conditions. I encourage you to participate in the project by submitting a photo to the following address or by email: WEBSITE: http://respectallrussianlives.tumblr.com/submit EMAIL:[email protected] The photo should include yourself, holding a sign that reads, "Respect All Russian Lives." It can be of any size, resolution and color. You may also provide your name and location, but this is optional. You can also follow the project with the hashtag #respectallrussianlives. The project is on Facebook and Twitter as well: http://www.facebook.com/respectallrussianlives http://twitter.com/RespectAllRU The lives of Russians gays, lesbians, bisexuals, transgender and queer people and their struggles are not invisible. Let them know that they are not alone. If you could share this or participate in the project, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you! #LGBT #lgbtq #humanrights #russia #gay #antigay #homophobia #respectallrussianlives
My name is Keith Brooks. I’m a communications specialist from Louisville, Kentucky and I volunteer with the Fairness Campaign, an LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer) human rights organization based in the city.
I’ve been following the crisis in Russia for the past year. In 2012, I learned about Moscow Pride being banned for 100 years by the country’s top court. Sadly, the country’s progress since the decriminalization of homosexuality in 1993 has taken a rapid and dark turn.
The situation has become increasingly worse. This year, Russian president Vladimir Putin signed a federal bill that prohibits the “propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations” to minors. This means that it’s literally illegal to even talk about being gay at all, or risk paying a costly fine.
Local gay rights activists and groups are suffering financially because of their refusal to classify as “foreign agents,” a derogatory term that has raised concerns of human rights groups.
Neo-Nazis are using social media to target LGBTQ youth and torture them.
And the media isn’t helping either. A highly-regarded journalist stated on Russia’s second largest TV network that gays were “unsuitable for a continuation of life.” The comments from this video, as repulsive as they were, are the inspiration behind this project.
They need our help. They need to know that their struggles are not invisible and that their livelihoods matter. More than ever.
How can you help? It’s easy:
• Submit a photo. Click the “Submit A Photo" link at the top of this page or email a photo, which will be posted to the website.
• DONATE. Using PayPal, transfer your donation to the account [email protected]. If you wish to make a relatively big donation, please email them at the same address — they can provide you their bank account directly.
• Use the #respectallrussianlives on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and websites.
• Learn more about the Russian LGBTQ community and organizations. You can also like the GayRussia and the Russian LGBT Network Facebook pages.
There’s current actions about how to address this issue, including a possible boycott of the 2014 Sochi Olympics. Please note that this is only one of many efforts gearded toward supporting the LGBTQ communities in Russia; This project is about raising awareness and giving a voice to Russians who have been silenced.
Guys, I'd love you more than anything if you followed this project. I just created an account on Twitter, and Margaret Cho has already retweeted it. Please reblog and share this -- our LGBTQ brothers and sisters in Russia need our support, more than ever. With author and anti-racism activist Chris Crass, with whom we celebrated for the release of his book, "Towards Collective Liberation: Anti-Racist Organizing, Feminist Praxis, and Movement Building Strategy". We had a call to action after the event in which people held signs in response to the George Zimmermann verdict, countering the racist sentiments and devaluation of the lives of people of color. #antiracism #collectiveliberation #justicefortrayvon #louisville #hunanrights

At least once a week we get asked if we carry Tahini Paste. We do not. We prefer to make our own, since it is simple, less expensive, and preservative free when we make it. You can make your own in 10 minutes. We have the main ingredient for you too. White Hulled Sesame Seeds. Here's the recipe we use to make our own.
Tahini is a paste made of ground sesame seeds which is used in many Near and Far East recipes. This is a traditional recipe that is very simple to make with a blender or food processor.
Prep Time: 10 minutes Total Time: 10 minutes
Ingredients:
2 Tablespoons sesame seeds
1/2 teaspoon sesame oil
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup tepid water
Preparation:
Place sesame seeds in a blender or food processor and grind until smooth. Add sesame oil and salt. Process until combined. With the motor running, add the water in a very slow, steady stream and blend until smooth.
Yield: about 1/2 cup
BIG, EARTHSHATTERING NEWS!
Pardon My Norwegian was featured last month in Klar Tale as part of a May 17 story about people around the world who love Norway and have a special connection to the country. Myself, along with several people from France, Australia and another American were interviewed. Read the full story online!
Without a doubt, this is certainly the biggest thing to have ever happened to my blog — thank to you all of my followers and especially to Klar Tale for interviewing me! Stay tuned for more news and updates!
By the way, did I mention this happened? I'm big in Norway!

WEIGHT LOSS! Yesterday marks two months since I revolutionized my eating habits: 1660 calories per day, no alchohol, no fried or processed foods and smaller portions. It's more of a lifestyle change and I have dipped every now and then, but after the weight gain last summer, I had to take control. I don't own a scale so I'm not sure how much I lost, but I'd say 15-20 pounds. Very pleased with the results so far!
