Excited to be heading back out to Fort Sill, Oklahoma next week.

Along the Wichita Mountains in Southwest Oklahoma is Fort Sill, a sprawling base that was first settled in 1869 during the American Indian Wars. Today the base is home to the US Army Field Artillery School, which trains soldiers from across the country in the tactics of field artillery weapons. In September 1969, at 19 years old and just drafted into the army, my father was stationed at Fort Sill for field artillery training and in December he was deployed to Vietnam.

Using letters my father wrote to his family and his fading memory of his time there, I am retracing his steps and reimagining his experience in my photographs.
