@kelela-
From that one time I swam with wild dolphins in Hawaii.
If you don't mind me asking, where did you go to dive with the dolphins while you were in Hawaii?? Did you pay for a specialized tour or did you just happen upon them while snorkeling? Thank you so much 😊
We just happened upon them!!! It’s at a place called Electric Beach, I highly recommend going! There is an electrical power plant on the beach and it puts out hot water, so it attracts a lot of wildlife. We saw a bunch of fish, sea turtles and those spinner dolphins, but I’ve heard of people seeing sharks and even seals and sea lions!
We went a time before the day we saw the spinners, so it really just depends on luck sometimes! So, good luck! :)

Mikioi! <3 :)
Which specific internship r u doing? I know theres like different types of 'experiences' (aloha, hawaiian, etc)
I was in the Cove experience! :)
Wholphin love! ❤️
We're surviving Iselle so far...
So I know there are crazy earthquakes and tornados or whatever in Hawaii. And I just wanna say I hope you stay safe!!! ❤️
Thanks so much for your kind words! :) I’m from Florida, so I’m really used to hurricanes… but being on an island is what makes it scary! The big island just got a 4.2 earthquake, so hopefully we will have none of those over here!
Hurricanes!!!
Means a day off of work tomorrow. Which I am sad about. But it means I can catch up on my blogging ;)
My life = made!
Hi there! I'm Meghan. I'm an aspiring dolphin trainer and noticed you work/intern at SeaLife Park? I'm hoping to intern there soon & was wondering if you could tell me what it's like working there? :) it would mean the world to me!
Hey! Thanks for checking out my blog :) It is so amazing! The internship is great. It is very structured, and everyone wants to help you learn about marine mammal training. You actually go through phases in the internship where, in each phase, you learn about training… like in the first phase, it is all about the basics: basic husbandry skills and basic animal training definitions (operant conditioning, LRS, etc.) Then the second phase is more detailed parts of the first phase, and getting hands-on learning. Then the third phase is you proving you can really do all of it! :)
All in all, I highly recommend this internship if you are considering a career in marine mammal training! :)
what is a HOT intern? like; a really attractive one?........
Haha no! :) HOT interns are in the Hawaiian Ocean Theater department, so they are just nicknamed “HOT” interns! That’s what I thought too when I started though, hahaha… :)
Sea lion buddies! :)
Honu and I! :)
Hi! I really love your blog & I find it really insightful. I'm just curious how you got into all of this?! I've always been so interested in marine life & now I'm 18 about to go to college, trying to figure my life out. I guess I'm looking for some advice also haha
Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoy my blog :)
If you’re looking to get into animal training, it definately helps if you have unpaid animal experience. Before I landed this internship with dolphins, I completed an internship at a zoo. And before I got my zoo internship, I did volunteer work at an aquarium and at a horse stable! Dolphin training internships are highly competitive, and typically you wont be considered if you have zero animal experience. So anything working with animals, even volunteering at a dog shelter, always helps!
As for college, many facilities prefer degrees related to Marine Bio, Zoology and Psychology… but honestly, there are many cases of animal trainers who have degrees in, like, Business or Computer Sciences. The type of degree doesn’t necessarily matter, but benefits you. I am majoring in Psychology and it has absolutely helped in my training internship, because I had learned aspects about operant and classical conditioning already!
I hope this helped a bit! Good luck in your future endeavors :D
