🐋Daily Cetacean Fact:🐋

Northern Bottlenose Whale: They are the largest members of the beaked whale family. Their scientific name, Hyperoodon ampullatus, is derived from the Latin word ampulla for the bottle shape of their beak. Overall, the beaked whale family is cryptic and skittish, making it difficult to distinguish between them. Northern bottlenose whales, however, are the most extensively studied of the beaked whales because they used to be heavily hunted, making carcasses available for scientists to examine.

“Faces from the Black Sea”

A series of drawings I started in 2018 and, of course, never continued. The idea was to practice my pencil work through several photo studies of Black Sea bottlenose dolphins. They have the most beautiful faces and markings, so a lovely subject for a study series like this. Alas, something or another came along and it never got further than these two drawings. Even though they’re older works I still very much like them! And I hope you will, too.

Happy World Oceans Day! 🌏 Today is about celebrating our incredible underwater world which provides us with so much, including air and food which are pretty important! 🌬🍽 This is a clip from one of my all time favourite encounters last winter with incredible water clarity, a feeding Bottlenose dolphin and Humpback Whales singing in the background- it doesn’t get much better than this! 💯
