James 1:2(NET) says
"My dear brothers and sisters, consider it nothing but joy when you fall into all sorts of trials,"
Be joyful in everything, even if it's hard!!
Back to James, this time chapter one, verse twelve.
James 1:12 NET
"Happy is the one who endures testing, because when he has proven to be genuine, he will receive the crown of life that God promised to those who love him."
Life's not easy, and living for God is hard, but it's totally worth it! God allows us to go through hard and trying things to see if we will pull away, or draw closer to Him. Going through the ringer? Seems like there's no hope? Hmmm.....read this:
So then, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Today has enough trouble of its own.
You see! Don't worry about tomorrow and all it's problems. Be joyful in the day you were given, which is today! When we choose to be happy and let the fear and worry go, our lives instantly (DID YOU READ THAT?!), INSTANTLY, begin to get better. How you ask? Because you are choosing to no longer listen to the lies that are being fed to you.
So be joyful in it all. A joyful person grows joyful people! Meaning, your joy is contagious, and it changes a room!
Your attitude and the way you handle yourself effects the people around you. (Pretty sure I've blogged about attitude before. Check it out.)
So how can you become a joyful and all around happy person? There's a few simple things that help me out. A lot.
1.) Read your bible, DAILY! Start with some basic scriptures that are just good ones to keep in your pocket, ready to tell yourself! Ex., Gen. 50:20, Jeremiah 29:11, Phil. 4:3, Matthew 6:33, etc.
2.) Pray and ask God to give you strength and joy through your trials. They're gonna come, it's inevitable, but He and only He , can give you what it takes to conquer those trials!
3.) Block out the lies. When "you-know-who" starts talking crap, DON'T listen!! He's a punk and you need to tell him to go back to you-know-where. ;)
4.) Surround yourself with joyful and encouraging people. Something I had to do, and it's not always fun, is change the people I surrounded my self with. Sure, I lost some 5+yr friendships, but God gave me BETTER ones in just a matter of time. The people you spend the most time with are the people you are going to act the most like. So choose wisely!
5.) CHOSE TO BE HAPPY!!!! Because, let's just be honest, nobody likes "Mr. Grumpy Gills" who sucks on sour lemons all day. So what your day was crappy?! Jesus had LOADS of crappy days, but he still chose to be happy!
What it all boils down to is this, a life lived with God is a life very well lived. And very joyful. A lot of what we feel comes from what we believe and listen to. So until we change our music(Eminem isn't really a "joyful" rapper.), the people we hang around, and the things we believe about ourselves, nothing is ever going to change. So today is the day! Let God move!
