Things One Piece is about:
Piracy
Adventure
The power of friendship
Fighting against oppression no matter what form it takes, be it a corrupt king, rival pirates, or a system of government that controls the whole world
The only way to make a change when stuck in a situation that's actively taking away your freedom and rights is by force
Racism and discrimination are complicated issues that cannot be solved over night, it takes a combined effort to reach an understanding and to change people's views, and even if you can't let go of your own hatred because of the horrible things you've experienced, you shouldn't pass that hatred onto the next generation and instead allow them to form their own opinions through their own lived experiences
Freedom and liberation are basic human rights
Everyone, no matter who they are, should have access to food and water
Healthcare should be readily available to anyone who needs it
It's incredibly important to not only learn, but understand and preserve history, because those who seek power will go out of their way to destroy inconvenient information, erasing the stories of those who no longer have a voice, dooming society into forever repeating the same mistakes without ever learning from them
Children shouldn't suffer because of the actions of their parents
Queer people

I love whatever's wrong with Lio.

"We all have something ugly inside us, something we're ashamed of. But so what? I saw on TV, that even some of those stars look really strange from up close. Apparently, some of them have holes in them or are made of ice or smoke and nothing else.
But that doesn't mean they shine any less."

"I want you to use your tongue for me." CRAZYYY
The kind of life desire.
sometimes i remember that one piece's main theme is laughter and i kinda choke up about it
the final island is called Laugh Tale, so many characters have unique laughs, Nami laughed freely for the first time in years in the company of others after faking it for so long, Genzo wore a pinwheel on his head because it was the only way baby Nami would laugh around him, Usopp saw a girl falling into depression after losing her parents and devoted a year to making up stories just to get her to laugh, Chopper and Robin were both finally given positive attention by someone and copied their laughs for a short while (Chopper's case an adoptive father, Robin's case her first friend outside of archeologists) Robin lost everything when her home burned down and she tried to desperately laugh the pain away but with the same laugh as Saul before he was frozen alive, Luffy kicks Crocodile's ass but not before demanding him to give Vivi back the country because if it was truly her country she would be laughing a lot more, there's a major war going on and everyone around luffy couldn't help but laugh and rally behind him just because he was being himself despite the environment, there was someone called Joyboy 800 years ago and he brought laughter where he went, the main character is so goofy and silly and laughter that even when he's trying to fight seriously he ends up doing goofy shit that makes you or the people around him burst into laughter, one of his main powerups later on derives on how much he laughs and you can't help but laugh at the silliness of it all
it's a comedy, but it has it's dark and serious and heavy moments but every time it reminds you to laugh and be free!! laughter is so important! a tale of laughs!
it's such an important and major theme through the series but it can be missed so easily, it's in your face but it's not
how many people luffy and the straw hats have saved by bringing their smiles back to their faces, to let them laugh to their hearts content
do you see, do you see

Also how the legend of the D. clan is that they all die with a smile on their face, because they know not even Death can break their Will.
He's so sexy.
Good lord, have mercy.
Cale is protective of everyone in his group, but especially of the children. They are his weak point. The moment he recognizes one of his companions as a child under his protection, Cale becomes someone willing to beat even the gods if they look at his children the wrong way. No matter how minor an injury or insult, he will check on the children and put whoever caused them harm in their place.
For much of the story, I considered this part of the responsibilities he took on as the adult responsible for those children. But every now and then, hidden among internal monologues, small pieces of his past would emerge. Missing pieces of an increasingly dark puzzle, where clues could be glimpsed into the origins behind his motivations. Then, after about 700 chapters, we finally learn about Kim Rok Soo's childhood, and it all makes sense.
He was a child abused and neglected by those who should have cared for him. Kim Rok Soo wasn't someone who just survived the apocalypse, but someone who had been surviving since childhood. He survived the death of his parents, an abusive home where he lived in constant fear, and an orphanage where he had no one. The responsible adults who should have cared for him were never truly present, forcing him to become responsible for himself from an early age. That's why Cale protects his children even more fiercely, even when he knows it's not necessary, because he's always longed for someone to do the same for him. Someone who would step forward, protect him, tell him everything would be okay, and actually work to deliver on those words. Cale tries to be the safety net for his children that was always absent while he was growing up (even if he always fails miserably when he coughs up blood, faints, and nearly dies again). He knows how much the absence of a responsible adult hurts, and he knows his children know the same, because he's pulled them out of terrible situations. That's why Cale will always protect his children. He took them in and decided to be responsible for them, so he needs to be better than all the bad examples he had growing up, because otherwise he will never forgive himself.
It's unbelievable how the God of Despair tried to break Cale mentally through a test that forced him to relive one of his worst traumas, only for Cale to turn him into a kind of extremely dangerous, stressful, and cruel exposure therapy that helped him resolve one of his greatest failures, alleviating a burden he'd carried for over a decade. And during the trials of the Temple of the Sealed God, this was repeated in the trial of sadness, where Cale was able to relive another moment from his past and resolve his regrets. He literally thanked the God of Despair more than once for the opportunities to confront his past and resolve what was left unfinished.
The level of deception this man has achieved transcends most gods. Throw him into mental torture, and Cale will turn it into a therapy session.
