Finally watched supergirl! This might be based on a real life story. Cousins were harmed (jk…😝)

so in the 2003 Aquaman series they introduce a new backstory for archvillain Black Manta in which the entire reason for his (hyper)fixation on destroying Aquaman's life was severely maltreated autism, which Aquaman then cures him of with his magic water hand to completely redeem him. and this is obviously insanely stupid and ill-conceived and genuinely hateful, but given all of that, this is still one of the funniest speech balloons i've ever read in a comic. me @ myself when i remember how i acted in high school or whatever

Reminder that Jason witnessed Bruce trying to kill the Joker after he brainwashed Selina, locking KGBeast in the sewers to die in there, leaving Deacon Blackfire to be beaten to death and literally saying to Jason himself that Jose Garzona wanting to avenge his son was a "father's righteous anger"

plus "for every action in this universe, there is an opposite and equal reaction"

You know what the most fucked up thing about Jason's death is?

It's that he can never get his justice legally because Bruce fucking Wayne decided to erase all evidence.

He erased Jokers involvement. He took off Jason's Robin costume so that his own identity wouldn't be revealed.

Bruce put the risk of his identity being revealed over Jason's justice.

The man who is all about 'justice getting served legally'. Yeah that would be one more thing I'd feel betrayed about if I was Jason.

Like not only did he not learn from Jason dying (allowing a kid to be a vigilante), but have said kid be in the costume HE died in. And then the fact that no one went to his fucking funeral because Bruce rushed it, telling no one about it? Allowing Alfred to put up a memorial case which has the plaque 'A good soldier' and doesn't bother to change it to son or even take it down? Having Jason's grave not in the Wayne funeral place? Basically screaming that Jason Todd-Wayne is not truly his son, but js just Jason Todd?

Not being able to do anything to the Joker because he had diplomatic immunity? Bruce literally could've just waited until the Joker no longer had any. There are literally so many ways to ensure someone like Joker never sees the day of light (even without killing him) and it simply isn't Arkham asylum. And you'd think a man who had been titled 'the greatest detective in the world' would understand that when a rogue escapes an asylum for the nth time this week, it obviously DOES NOT WORK. and therefore you have to look at alternative options. They don't have to be held in Gotham for fucks sake. But no. Joker can't be charged with the crime of killing Jason because Bruce erased all evidence that would link the Joker to the crime.

So yeah, what's one more fuck up? Not having justice served for Jason is good because otherwise Bruce's identity would be at risk. And his identity is more important than getting his 'son' justice apparently.

supergirl gives me just as much hope as superman does. you can come back and still choose to do good despite what you’ve been through.

i think part of what made supergirl so special is that the whole time watching i never felt like kara was sexualized or objectified at all, normally in women superhero movies theyre in skintight suits or have perfect makeup on or there's a fight scene that just so happens to lift up their skirt (and that did happen but she was wearing a skort because of course you would if you can FLY) but that just didnt happen. her hair is messed up basically the entire movie and even at the heroic full body shot at the end she's just floating over everyone, not saying some stupid "you just got beat up by a lady!" one liner or doing some unrealistic pose just to make a good screenshot. she was always just a person. and parts of the story definitely connect to her more because she is a woman but being a woman didnt get in the way of being a person (...kryptonian).

What I found funny about the supergirl movie is that superman 2025 with clark's parents message sets up kryptonians as like, this egotistical narcissistic race of people with a raging superiority complex. And then you watch supergirl and nope. Jor-el was just Like That. The rest of them are normal he's a freak there too

i did see somebody critiquing the movie, saying that kara didn’t care about the trafficked girls at all and she was just doing all that to get an antidote for her dog, which was selfish of her. which first of all, her not caring about the girls is simply not true. the second the tech pirates mentioned that krem and his guys were on that planet that trafficks young girls, she immediately went there to find him and put a stop to it. she protected ruthye from the traffickers, helped get others to safety when they escaped the transport, and the rest of the girls who were stuck on krem’s ship, she helped rescue them. sure, she was initially motivated by all of this to save krypto, but circumstances allowed her to kill two birds with one stone by catching up to krem—freeing the girls and getting krypto’s antidote. and even if her initial motivations for krypto were a little selfish, the movie also showed us very clearly that kara is not perfect. and after everything she’s lost, i think a little selfishness for her dog (who is her family) is warranted

there’s something about kara taking out all the brigands while ruthye stands in the center completely safe even without moving a finger that perfectly and totally encapsulates what it means to be a superhero

Interesting that Zor-El was aware of his brother's plan for Kal but didn't approve. I can't imagine how that conversation went.

Jor-El: Ok, the planet is going to explode.

Zor-El: Uh huh.

Jor-El: So I'm going to send my son to another planet to save him.

Zor-El: With you so far.

Jor-El: And the yellow sun will give him great power to conquer the world so he can take a harem of wives to repopulate the Kryptonian species.

Zor-El: And you lost me.

Which is why this is now my mental image of the above conversation.

Kara: Look, obviously I knew he needed to die but I couldn't let Ruthye do it, it would fuck with her head too much. So I let her get closure then killed him myself.
