Dance With Devils Review
With a small bit of reluctance did I start this series. Although it is not outstanding as many others, it is not something to regard as “horrible”.
The Synopsis
Ristuka Tachibana, a once normal high school student who did the usual, attend classes and hang out with her one friend. But her once normal life turns upside down as she is caught between the race to find the Grimoire, a single book allowing its holder to control the world. And it is then that she learns the existence of vampires and devils. As many fight for her affection, all she needs is someone to trust. In the end, who will be rewarded with her last dance?
The Story
I must admit, the story was quite amusing although lacked salt and pepper. Like, the needed ingredients were there to create a… nice dish but there wasn’t anything too impressing of it. There wasn’t really uniqueness to the story and it was pretty predictable as well. Now, I’m not saying that I didn’t enjoy it—I did! It’s just… don’t hold too high of expectations for a wowing event.
The Characters
Our main protagonist, Ritsuka Tachibana, was alike to Yui Komori from Diabolik Lovers: oblivious, attempting-to-be-brave-but-fails-to-do-so, and of course, innocent. Nothing new with the rest (unless you count a masochistic fallen angel as one) personality-wise but I felt that Rem Kaginuki had a too sudden change in personality :/ Also, the rest of the characters seemed to not care for the Ritsuka that much, as if their emotions weren’t real (which I believe is true) and they were blinded by the effects of some type of spell.
SPOILER: Okay, to be honest, the death Azuna Kuzuha actually made no difference to the story I think. Like, maybe a bit but I was just like “whatever, I don’t care”. That’s the thing about this anime I guess—you don’t really get too attached to the characters. Not sure if this applies to everyone but it does to me :P And also, Roen… I don’t understand how he falls in love with Ristuka when he had little to no screen time with her like ?!????
Final Words
After watching the final episode, I knew my rating: a 6.9 out of 10. What was saddening was that the music was probably the most enjoyable part of the anime. Now, to be honest, this anime had exceeded my expectations (but this is probably due to them being so low). I’m not attempting to say this anime is horrible and you should most definitely not watch it! It’s an enjoyable watch but only if you are in the mood for it or are just looking for some decent-quality anime.
If you are just looking for a reverse harem-supernatural type of anime, I’d recommend this one! If you want a very attachable story filled with oh so many emotions and something to love/remember you’re whole entire life, you’re at the wrong place girl/boy. It’s not a must-watch anime but it’s worth a mention here and there.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hDtStJhiLzY - Free! Eternal Summer Seiyuu Event ENGLISH SUB
This event is something that made me cry loads, and after a week of searching for one with english subs I will tell you it was worth it. The boys had a few competitions and announced High Speed - Starting Days (which still hasn’t got english subs or dub). In which most of them shed a tear or so… but I think the ending was the thing that triggered my sadness, all of them were finally accepting that Free! had pretty much come to an end, and to see their faces and hear their thanks broke me a bit. Yes they still have a career in voicing anime etc. But they wont get to be those characters for much longer. It was just an emotional video haha. Its long but so worth watching to see how fair they have all come!
Rambling
Just got back from spending the day at Otafest and I felt like it was…alright?
Normally I’m super ecstatic about Otafest and how much I loved it and enjoyed it and I just don’t feel the same way? I mean, it was not bad by any stretch of the imagination, but it felt really lacklustre to me.
Now, to be fair, I have only gone the one day, and maybe if I go the whole weekend, my experience would be better, but my experience today does not make me want to go back tomorrow.
The thing is, I’m not 100% sure why I feel this way. Now there are a couple of things I can home in on. I felt like there were a huge lack of panels, events, and the like that really interested me. Because of this most of my day was me sitting in the Gaming Area playing card games just to kill time. The other thing is the vendor hall, which includes the exact same vendors that have been there since I started going to Otafest, so I’m just seeing the same stuff over and over again.
Is it the new venue? I don’t think so. There are less places to just sit and hang out, but it is air conditioned (Thank the Lord), and once you sort of figure out how the place works I found it way easier to navigate, with far less walking.
Is it the people i was with? Well, one thing was this year a large majority of the people I normally spend my time with at Otafest did not go this year, which was a little upsetting, but I did meet up with a couple of friends and spend the whole day with them, which was great.
Was it my interests? It is possible. It tends to be whatever anime is the newest and hottest is the one that gets the most attention, programming, and representation, leaving my interests (Dragon Ball, Gundam, and Digimon) almost completely unrepresented. It could be I’m just not into the right kind of stuff, or not immersed enough in this culture to truly appreciate this.
Was it cosplay? Also possible. I rarely cosplay mostly due to a lack of time, money, and skill, even though it is something I really want to do. Also, because I have not started my transition yet, my lack of body positivity prevents me from cosplaying characters I truly want to (e.g the ones of the cute female variety) and seeing them constantly done very well could leave a mark on my self esteem a bit.
I’m not sure. It could be a combination of all of these or some of these, but I just did not feel like I had as good of a time this year.
Anime is a 90s baby influence. The organic vibe of this media has allowed for countless connections with the people we care about the most.
