I am not fond of the Kennedys
The Kennedy family has been nothing but a negative on the culture and society of America. Joe? Kissed Hitler’s feet and gave his daughter a lobotomy. We could have won the war by 1943 if he hadn’t been whispering his honeyed words in Franklin’s ears the whole time, stopping us from joining the effort. He was pretty racist too, but they’re from Massachusetts so that’s a free space.
John? Did NOTHING except solve the Cuban Missile crisis. “Oh,” I hear you saying “That’s pretty good though, right? Nuclear war would have been pretty bad.” And that’s true and all except JFK STARTED IT BY PUTTING MISSILES IN TURKEY! Now I’m no tankie, not a huge fan of the USSR myself but the basic rules of a situation like the Cold War is when one side escalates, the other side escalates back. We put missiles in a spot that can hit all of the major Soviet cities, they put missiles in a spot that can hit all of ours. Simple, yes? The Cuban Missile Crisis was John F. Kennedy’s fault. And on the topic of JFK, it’s remarkable how despite a Congress dominated by his party, and having one of the single most legislatively effective men in American history as his Vice President, he had no domestic policy achievements to speak of! “Oh, but he was assassinated, he didn’t get his whole term” HE HAD THREE YEARS. That’s plenty of time. Joe Biden didn’t take three years to get his policy packages done, and he had both a significantly less cooperative Congress and more amateurish VP! And do you know why JFK refused to send LBJ, a person famed and feared for his ability to get legislation passed, to actually do his job? It’s because of the next person on the list, RFK! That’s right, just because the son is worse doesn’t mean the father is exempt from shame.
Robert Kennedy was the first of the Clintonite New Democrats, with his gleeful lust to cut welfare and disadvantage mothers and minorities. “Oh, but he talked so prettily about the plight of the poor and the black folks!” I hear you cry. Well, as they say, talk is cheap. He may have been the one who convinced his brother to reluctantly start speaking up about civil rights two and a half years after he was elected, but we can see his true feelings when it comes to his views on unions, (didn’t like them, even the ones that weren’t ruled by Hoffa) welfare, (wanted to reduce overall spending and impose draconian work and timing requirements) and Lyndon Baines Johnson, a man who dragged himself out of poverty from off a Texan dirt farm, up to being a public school teacher, then finally into political office, heading all the way up the ranks. LBJ was a genuine proletarian, a man who knew exactly what it was like to be poor and how to alleviate that struggle, as seen in his policies as President, which I will not go into here. When made to work with a person who actually grew up poor, instead of being born with a silver spoon in their mouth, RFK was so disgusted he lobbied JFK to lock LBJ out of pretty much every important meeting, ensuring that no legislative progress would ever be made, from pure spite. Not only that, he cared so deeply about black liberation and civil rights that he personally greenlit Hoover’s wiretapping of MLK Jr.! What a lovely thing to do.
I actually have nothing against Edward M. (Ted) Kennedy. He was a nice man, actually worked on policy as a senator, was crucially important on several very notable bills, and unlike John he actually fought for healthcare reform, instead of just giving it lip service in one speech. He did kill that girl that one time, but I’m comfortable calling that an accident.
do I really need to explain why RFK Jr. isn’t great.
blinkies i made 4 fun + another cool gif i found (sorry if this is formatted weirdly this is first time making them)
I need to stop buying pins but this is like a dollar… should I?
Ted and Joan Kennedy join composer conductor Leonard Bernstein for a rehearsal of Bernstein's "Mass" at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, c. 1971.
“We musicians, like everyone else, are numb with sorrow at this murder, and with rage at the senselessness of the crime. … This will be our reply to violence: to make music more intensely, more beautifully, more devotedly than ever before. And with each note we will honor the spirit of John Kennedy, commemorate his courage, and reaffirm his faith in the Triumph of the Mind.” - In the aftermath of JFK’s assassination, at Madison Square Garden on November 25, 1963, Bernstein emotionally proclaimed.

Visiting my partner's family & just this morning he shared this political cartoon his Dad has kept on the fridge since 2004.
It's so old that the Christian Science Monitor was an award-winning daily paper. Now the press is in an even bleaker state than the Bush years, but the battles are the same.
ID: A faded, yellowing, coffee-stained, Political cartoon cut out of a newspaper by Clay Bennett for the Cristian Science Monitor. Two white guys talking.
The guy on the left has slick hair and a suit + tie. His political buttons say, "No gay marriage," "Pro-Life," and "Bush Cheney '04." He is scowling.
The guy on the right is wearing an open collar and casual jacket with scruffier hair. His political buttons read, "2004 Kerry & Edwards," "Pro-choice," a peace sign, and a rainbow flag that says "Equality." He is speaking.
The caption reads, "Actually, I voted for moral values, too."
Held up with purple crystal magnet. End ID.
