You all realize Feminists have been critiquing "women only spaces" for decades right?

I think often about Audre Lorde's critique of a women only event that welcomed her wife and daughter, but not her son. Because she questioned it - the function and purpose of barring even the sons of Feminist women from Feminist events. Especially the barring of her young Black son, who would otherwise be left alone in the city where he would be more prone to the very violence those same Feminist women claimed to want to change.

Because what functional, forward thinking Feminist purpose does it actually serve to do that? What message does that send to women with sons, husbands, brothers, lovers, friends, who want to involve the men and boys in their lives in their activism? Who want to build a functionally better world for us all outside of the oppressive grasp of Patriarchy? Especially for the marginalized men who often sit at their own intersection violent Patriarchal oppression, that still happens to be Patriarchal oppression despite it not being distinctly misogyny?

What purpose does it truly serve to sequester yourself away into a pocket of the world, detached from those you share it with? What bright and shining future does that really promise you?

The thing about "Not all men" is that the men it applies to don't need to hear it. Like any actual principled male feminist doesn't need to be coddled and reassured that he isn't a "bad person" just because he's part of a privileged oppressor class in relation to women. You aren't much of a "progressive", even in the loosest uses of that term, if systemic critiques cause you personal offense

When people make overgeneralizations about men, who does it hurt?

Autistic men who struggle with taking things literally.

Men with a history of trauma and abuse who have had people deeply hurt them by saying cruel, disparaging things to them and now they have this voice in their head beating them up, and they see a message on social media reinforcing what that voice is saying. That they are a creep, that they are worthless, that they are scum, that they deserve to die.

Men who are struggling with depression who have these negative thoughts from their mental illness.

Trans men. And trans women and transfem people who deal with people calling them men and calling them creeps and telling them to die.

Posts like this are sick because they show a lack of compassion and regard for all these people, the vulnerable men and also nonmen who are often seen as men by others.

I have had specific people in literally every group I mentioned above open up to me about being harmed by negative overgeneralizations about men. Each and every one of them has been a principled feminist. Many of them have put in years of work to lift up women and tear down misogyny and patriarchy.

And they still have to put up with shit like this. I am so done with it and I think we as feminists and as humans need to build a consensus to be done with rhetoric like this once and for all.

You are wrong. And I reject what you are saying and I have no interest in including anyone in my activism who doesn't reject it. I've already explained myself on this issue countless times and no one has ever made a meaningful rebuttal. It's time to stop with this hate, which is what it is.

It undermines feminist goals. It ruins feminism from the inside out. It hurts men. It hurts women. In fuels right-wing backlash.

We need to reject it. We literally have a fascist misogynist in the white house because of rhetoric like this alienating people on a massive scale. Yes I know that people voted for Trump specifically because of rhetoric and attitudes like this, because I have heard them say it.

We need to build a consensus to reject ideas like this. Yesterday.

After relocating from their previous shelter and resettling, they watched their tent GO UP IN FLAMES as it was struck by a rocket. They watched as the rocket fell down not knowing whether they would live or die in that moment. Thankfully they had stepped only meters away and weren't struck by the rocket. But can you imagine going to sleep at night knowing you could have died if you were ever so slightly less lucky?

Now they have nothing. They watched unable to do anything as their tent and all their belongings went up in flames. They will sleep on the street, in the cold and wet weather with nothing to shelter them from the elements if they do not raise enough money tonight. Please, anything will help.

Our short term goal is $3500 with the aim of buying a tent, then working towards evacuation.
