HI, I recently had to leave art school and wanted to ask your opinion on the subject, I hear that you don't need it from so many professionals but how do you feel on solely self education to become a pro?

I find school to be important initially. It’s a place where you can meet your support system. You can bounce your ideas off of them. You can get critiques that actually mean something. All of the jobs that I’ve had professionally don’t exactly relate to my degree entirely, and most were skills I learned on the job, and as a result of that I ended up in toy design (a combination of cartooning, and engineering). That being said just looking at your page shows me that you have a very strong foundation from which to work from. If you can apply what you’ve already learned in school, practice literally EVERY SINGLE DAY (I can’t stress the “every single day” part enough) I can see you being very successful out side of school. If I had to go back, I wouldn’t have wasted my money. **DISCLAIMER** I understand that you are trying to feel around to see what your best course of action would be, but at the end of the day I would just suggest that you do whatever you feel is the right thing to do for your future.

Full disclosure he’s a professional who’s opinion I trust and he’s very generous with his time and advice (don’t harass him for crits),  If you even half like my stuff you’ll really like his.

And I would like to add I do believe that art school as an institution has its place(read above) but reasonably driven, disciplined individuals can make it happen with or without a brick-and-mortar facility. Just my two cents. Take it with a grain of salt.

Some sketches for a couple of toy design projects. The first was for a potential Adventure time Licensed battle arena with battle robots disguised as our favorite adventurers.
