AMPERSAND (Android, PC & Linux, IOS via Sidestore)
Ampersand was the app we were going to switch over too first, we've wiped the data on it at least once as well as have kept it in it's CI build and continued updating it for as long as we've had it despite not using it anymore, it was the most intriguing inherently due to people praising its Markdown Capabilities. Including built in Assets and an asset tab as seen below.
Theres a lot of misinformation I've been seeing on here about Ampersand including the idea that the developer has ditched the project and it's been taken on by a new one. This is not true! Ampersand is developed by a system named Nao and always has been, there are no plans on ditching the project and it is continuing to be updated daily, the CI build updates atleast once every two days.
There was recently a new stable build released that made it handle polyfragmented and high headcount systems SUBSTANTIALLY better, it can now handle systems of up to 800+ alters with a lot less loading time and very limited lag, of course it still depends on Your software that you're running it on as that always will when it comes to apps, though everything from an in-app perspective seems to have been fixed!
PROS:
The markdown 100%, its my favorite feature and its getting updated daily, you can add your own fonts in the current CI build through the assets also as far as i know, theres moving text
Theres an ability to mark main front (alter at front of list + overlay) as well as front presence which is the way a lot of people are Logging said main front versus other fronts + an option to set an alter as being Influenced (which i believe is shown through an overlay on their profile while dimming the influencer)
@ing other alters, you can mention and link yourself to other alters through profiles
Offline and not planned to go online, completely private and information for only you yourself
Built in message board on home screen. loads up First by default. You can pin or archive messages here and they're separate from your journals
The Journals are sorted by date and shown here, you can attach a banner and theres a title, subtitle, and the actual text. as far as i know certain markdown works here but I haven't used it myself
The front history is in options which makes it a bit hard to find but its also sorted on a calendar by date like above and has this list under it.
There is also a tags feature for sorting which appears like this, also showing the rest of how ampersands profiles generally look.
It has an option for subsystems and tracking multiple systems + which alter is under which
CONS
The way it shows front is a little clunky and there's no way to minimize it from the dash page that i know of which can be annoying if you use the message board often
No notification features

Its a large learning curve. if you don’t already know a lot of markdown you will probably get overwhelmed with it all / not end up utilizing it anyway
It has no way of tracking if somebody is/was in main front without navigating to the original front date and checking presence history assuming you utilized it.
We used it for about a month until it (the developer) started focusing a lot on the markdown and we aren't very savvy with that sort of thing so we ended up ditching it for something simpler because we don't really need an app that has that much markdown personally ! We don't see that many flaws with it besides the ones I wrote above, it's a very nice app!
OVERALL: 8/10
USAGE: We don't use this one anymore! Would suggest it to systems who like making things look as aesthetic/pretty as possible but don't have a lot of experience using things like Google Sites, Carrd, Notion, and other more Markdown / HTML-centric apps.
Coming back to this one to add some COMMUNITY NOTES! I asked a few people I know that currently use Ampersand for more Pros to list out as well as examples for some of their profiles and more features of the app in use! I have permission to post what I have posted and if that permission is revoked it will go down immediately.
The github is updated LIVE, you can see them as they happen and due to the developer and contributors involvement in the community bugs can literally get fixed within a few minutes of you mentioning it in a chat.
This also means suggestions get added relatively quickly when/if confirmed or if the developer likes it.
It greets the main fronter on the dashboard, i forgot to include this factoid originally but it is so far the ONLY app i've found that does this!
Selectable / Toggleable custom fields, you can choose which custom fields are 'required' and which will appear on each individual parts profile.
There is an archive feature!
You can search by the tags like such (including in the asset manager)
The way fonts work are infact uploading them to the assets area, you use them the same as you would any other asset as far as i've been told. Here are some fonts this person uploaded onto their profile for custom use. I don't know where they're used or I'd show off the non-in-app fonts LOL. i inserted one with an assumption
