fuck, man, that was a tough watch. best episode so far but holy shit i feel like a wrung out dish towel. the tonal whiplash from the “your biggest fan” music video to gabriella with lestat’s double to the reveal that the interview session was a hallucination to the parallel reading of claudia’s diary entry and lestat’s assault by magnus to the quiet tragedy of lestat’s performance as each character seems to wallow in their own loneliness in different ways. this is the true voice of the show, and it’s fucking incredible.

Lestat crawling out of the car in flames, Lestat going back on stage not minding the muses and the trauma, conscious that he can't ignore it and shouldn't ignore it.

Lestat doing it because he loves music, not for the stage and to be loved, but because he loves music, art for art's sake.

Finally Magnus leaving and Gabrielle after. The abusers leaving and his past lover in the crowd happy.

This little set was one of my favorites. Lestat being the runt of the family, the disappointment, I wanted to give him a small awkwardly shaped room that felt like it was caving in on him, weighing him down. The small room was dominated but a giant fireplace and a heavy wood raftered ceiling (which sadly we never see, but it was painted in dull pinks and yellows and very oversized). While still "of the chateau" with carved wood paneling, we balanced it out with tile floors like you'd see in servant's quarters or kitchens.

As for the muraled walls, I wanted to play with the concept of the hetero-normative "little boy's room" but make it period. Instead of images of boats, trains, and trucks, the walls are covered with images of wartime masacres and conquests. The dichotomy of hard and soft really made it one of my favorites. And for those of you that do what we do, THIS IS WHY FLOORS MATTER!. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. I fought for those (expensive) tiles and they complete the set. Once our director and DP saw the floor, they restaged the scene. #vindication The set was drawn by the talented Gord Peterson, with mural graphics by @/mongtho

i do think it’s also a bit poetic, all the men who’ve hurt claudia all get to forgive eachother, while she’s dead and nothing can change that. even when season 2’s ending has a much more fulfilling ending than that of the first book, the fact that even seventy years later after her death, and her memory is still being used to either absolve louis’s guilt or being exploited comercially, that leaves an empty and withering feeling inside.

louis and lestat get to grieve and hug, for a moment atleast. louis and armand get to smile at eachother at the auction. lestat’s not talking to louis because of the book yet the man who published the book without louis’s consent is “dan”. and i guess lestat’s also chill with sam barclay, the man who wrote the baby lulu plays, the minstrel shows that killed her passion for performing, who also wrote the script for the trial next to santiago.

it poses a personally interesting question to me, do these vampires ever truly change? can cycles be broken if you’re immortal? are you bound to fall back into your old habits? are they frozen in the same dispositions they have when they were turned? states of fear, or grief, or arousal? will they continue to hurt claudia long after her death?

If (got help us), Interview the Vampire Lestat made it all the way to Memnoch the Devil, how would we know that Dora was on her Chechov’s period without Lestat mentioning it every thirty seconds like he does in the book? Surely he can’t do THAT many times.

My boy Daniel was screaming for help like yeah yk every now and then I feel the vampire loneliness described as the worst pain a vampire can feel and if not that, I sometimes feel like only me and Armand remain in the universe, but yk he kinda orphaned me the second he turned me sooooo I'm really just a mediocre fledgling with no actual powers in a world where every vampire probably wants to kill me. And Louis answer was "lol weird". This is honestly the best thing I've ever seen
