kaine’s wriggling into his jeans, the soft clink of metal chain links jingling together the only sound in the room. it’s dark, HIS SILHOUETTE'S BARELY VISIBLE, but the sound stops as he freezes. that’s not how this is supposed to go. staying the night is what takes this from ——— whatever it is ( friends with benefits ? enemies with benefits ? ) to boyfriends something more. they’re not something more, he thinks, leaning down to retrieve the shirt he’d so carelessly tossed aside earlier ( where the fuck is — ah, got it ! ). sure, he hasn’t slept with anyone else in a while, & yes, he’s discovered he REALLY, REALLY, REALLY likes kissing malachi . . . but they’re not something more. they’re barely even something ! it’s 2:18am according to his phone, & kaine’s satiated, satisfied, content. this is the part where he goes home. that’s just how it is. the part of him yearning for something holy has quietened to a RUMBLE not a ROAR, sated for now. & yet he finds himself tossing his shirt aside again, sliding his jeans off, & nudging malachi over as he slips back under the covers. ❛ don’t think this means anything, ❜ he murmurs, his hand somehow finding a RESTING PLACE in the groove of the angel’s hips. thumb brushes over skin, lazy kiss pressed to the crook of his neck. ❛ i just don’t feel like going out in the cold. ❜ he lives two streets over, a three-minute walk at best. pulls malachi towards him, nose nuzzling into the other boy’s blond curls. ❛ doesn’t mean anything. ❜
