If the people behind that door did play a trick, I bet it’d be on the news and the cops would be there and the parents of that kid would speak out against the dangers of Halloween or something. I mean really, they should just yell treat, because that’s what they want. Treats, not tricks.”

“Listen.” Sparrow said. “I was drunk an’ you can’t hold what drunk me says against sober me.” He could feel his face starting to heat up. He knew that normally he wasn’t going to win any awards for intelligence or even just diligence but put some alcohol in him and he tended to say and do even dumber things than normal. So he did the only thing he really knew to do, he pulled out his best  kicked puppy look hoping it would convince the other person to just drop it.

“You know.. they say a drunk mind speaks sober thoughts. Think you really meant it last night..” Kiara grins, her eyebrows wiggling at him, though she’s really just teasing. The girl doesn’t even know what he’s so worried about, because as much as she can remember, he hadn’t said anything odd or rude or stupid when he was drunk. “I’m kidding! I don’t remember you saying anything too embarrassing or stupid the other night, so you don’t have to worry ‘bout me. Now I dunno if you said anything to anyone else, so.. who knows, maybe there’s someone else out there that heard your drunken rambling.. they might hold it against you, but not me.”

“I might have overslept a little, and I might have missed three out of three classes today, but I definitely make significant progress on my latest project – that said, I think I’ve earned a Back to the Future marathon. You in?”

“You know what they say, if first you don’t succeed try again!! You can always try for those classes next week. Anyways, I don’t blame you in the slightest for skipping three out of three classes, in fact I’m a little jealous I didn’t think of doing that. You honestly didn’t miss much.A  Back to the Future marathon sounds like the best medicine honestly. Okay, and I was reading this article about all the predictions that movie made and we’ve pretty much done most of that shit, the future is now and we have conquered it.. or something -- I dunno.. I didn’t skip my classes, alright, and clearly they’ve drained me from making sense.

“oh..” she can feel her cheeks burn hot --- kiara didn’t even think she would get caught staring. a slight laugh falls from her lips and she shakes her head, smiling sheepishly. “i don’t need anything -- sorry, i uh.. just you know, daydreaming and whatnot..”

“That’s good. Wouldn’t be fair for a girl like you t’have parents anythin’ less.” It seemed like she wasn’t telling the whole truth, but he couldn’t really be bothered to care enough to poke at it. “Uh, not exactly. I lived here for a couple years before going t’college, but yeah, when I moved ‘ere I clung to some things. There used to be this little burger joint on forty-second that had food that tasted just like my favourite place back home, so I ate there, like, every other night.” The burger joint was real, but it was a year before he ever could eat there, and it was an occasional thing. The story he told was better. “Oh yeah, I remember that one! That was a damn good show.” A genuine smile came on his face at her joking, “Y’know what’d be real hot? Full on zombie make up. Really get into the Halloween spirit with that.” He didn’t think she would show up with costume make up on, but he’d definitely find it funny if she did. “I can come swing by t’get y’. I’m around the air house quite a bit.”

Kiara just smiles, tight lipped as she nods, waiting for the subject to pass and she knew it would. “Did it have milkshakes??” she asks softly, “A burger and fries is nothing without a good strawberry milkshake. --- Right?? It was that one and Even Stevens that were my favourite. But yeah, I remember there was that one teacher in That’s So Raven that literally just spat on everyone when he would lecture.” She laughs, bringing her palm up to cover her mouth some, stifle her laughter. “Zombie makeup?! Don’t tempt me. Do you know how many makeup tutorials are out there for that  -- I would look so realistic, it’d be sick. You know I think people would definitely think you were on a date with a real zombie.” Fingers pull through her long locks, pushing them back from her face. She tilts her head to the side slightly, “Okay. I’ll uhm, see you then, yeah??”

“Well if it won’t stain my clothes, I’ll definitely go as the Joker.” Alex replied with a large grin, “I just hope nobody else goes as him, too.. I’m looking forward to the party, though, it should be good. Back home, we never really had big parties for Halloween.”

“We should find a bunch more people to dress up with us and just finish the whole batman group!! Don’t ya think so??” Kiara’s eyes light up, excitement coursing through her veins, “I’ve changed my mind, we need to get a Batman and a Robin.. Poison Ivy.. The whole crew!! You don't have to be The Joker, you can be any of 'em!!”

aurora-duncan:

“That’s also something you can learn, babe. For the uni, I play soccer and quidditch, but I can play pretty much anything, yeah.”

“That’s awesome. Which do you enjoy playing the most?? -- honestly the only sport I was even remotely okay at in high school was badminton.. It’d be a miracle if I made any of this school’s sports teams.”

“Quidditch is awesome. If you have the opportunity, you should look into it. It’s not that complicated. There are four balls and seven playes in each team. The point is to score goals and to catch the snitch. Pretty easy if you don’t care about learning strategies and whatnot.”

“I still go to watch the games I can, because it’s honestly really cool and everything -- but I can barely fly a broom, you know? Don’t think joining a team anytime soon is in my future. Do you play a lot of sports, then??”

winny was always, always ready for an adventure…or a drink. she grabs onto kiara’s hand tightly, walking quickly through the halls to get to the portal. she giggles at the girl’s words, looking over at her fondly. “dunno how we’d get into the sky other than a portal. i can buy you a drink or two before we get some attention. sometimes i just walk straight up to guys and laugh at something they say and they buy me a drink — boys are so easy, y’know.”

“okay, so that was pretty silly, i know, but cut me a lil slack -- when i heard about the tavern i thought it was just some plain old bar.” her cheeks are hot, slightly embarrassed, though it doesn’t last long. “do cute boys even go there?? -- it’s the school’s so i would assume it’s just students, but y’never know with bars. the old creeps always seem to get in somehow. pinky promise you won’t leave me with some creep??”

“As long as the make-up won’t stain my clothes, definitely!” Alex beamed, “We’ll have to look up some other uses for our robes.. Maybe we could get green ones and go as hobbits?” he laughed, “I actually think Halloween is my favourite holiday, you know.”

“It definitely won’t stain your clothes. I’ll get the easy wash stuff. -- I dunno, Alex. I think we should just ditch our robes and come up with our own costumes, something completely original. It’ll be more fun that way.” She grins, reaching up to tuck her hair behind her ear. “Christmas is still my favourite -- Halloween is a close second.”

“Oh, y’know, pretty normal. Hugged me and said they would do whatever I wanted. Decided to go the normal route, school and all that. They’re pretty supportive people. Proponents of always speaking your mind too, which is how I came to be how I am. How’d yours react? I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that. I get it. Constants are important in lives that change so much. People like to cling to the familiar when the world around them is changing. And the sky is beautiful. It has so many stories to tell. Not exactly. A couple of my friends did. I tend to sit a few rows back in every new class. Y’know, close enough to seem interested, but far enough to not get spat at. Why not? It’d be funny, at the very least. Might prefer a nice lipstick, but. That works too. Guess I’ve never really thought to use magic for that. How ‘bout seven? The town lights up ‘round then and it’s like nothing else.”

“Oh, you know, pretty much the same..” Kiara shrugs slightly, eyes falling to the ground for a moment before flickering back up to him, “They are. You know, I never thought of it that way, but you’re right. Did you have anything like that for you when you were a freshman??” She hums, nodding gently, “The sky is beautiful. There’s gonna be a full moon on Tuesday. --- I didn’t actually think of that, god, I probably would have sat in the front and just gotten spat on the entire class. Reminds me of a That’s So Raven episode.. I’ll remember that for Saturday then. Get a full face paint job done before our date, just for you! Are there any colours you really like?? Cause I’m thinking maybe like orange, maybe do a whole pumpkin look to get in the spirit of Halloween.” She’s laughing softly, joking of course, because Kiara would definitely not show up to a date with her face outlined as a pumpkin. Sure. I’m in Air house, I dunno if you wanna meet somewhere or.. what but..”

winny had never paid much attention in her classes, she’d be lucky to make it out of elysium in five years.  “yeah, of course, i wouldn’t lie about it! there’s a portal to get there, just like there’s one to get to your house. if you wanna go right now we can! i bet we can get the seniors to buy us some drinks.” winny giggles, tossing her blonde hair over her shoulder.

her eyes light up -- kiara thought she might have to convince winny, but here she was suggesting they go!! kiara nods quickly, bouncing onto the balls of her feet, “why didn’t i know there was a portal to it?! i thought i had to go looking for the place, and that didn’t sound very fun alone. you’re probably right, don’t think it’ll be too hard getting drinks.. lead the way winny!!”

“Course I was!! -- you gals killed it. I actually understand soccer. Quidditch, not so much.. I mean I’m trying to catch on, you know?? It’s just the jargon that kills me a bit so I stick to the soccer games for now.”

“Yeah, for a year. It’s a little complicated. My parents aren’t magical or anything so I went the normal life route for a while. It’s not too focused on magic. It’s more about the application of magic and how astrology affects magic, people, all of that. If you’re into astrology normally, you’ll probably love it. Just, uh, forewarning, you should sit a few rows back at least. Professor’s a bit of a spit talker. Different feelings, maybe, but the same satisfaction, in my experience. A magician never reveals his secrets. Nah, I just use a paperclip or bobby pin, y’know? How about this Saturday?”

“How’d they react when they found out?? Ugh, I wish I could take it now, you know?? The sky is always the same no matter where you go.. in a beautiful sense, the moon, stars.. they’re always there -- constant, and yeah you can see them better in some places or maybe some stars shine brighter during some periods, but there’s something really comforting in it, for me at least. Just wanna learn more 'bout it. Oh god, I’ll remember that -- thanks. Guessing you learned from personal experience then?? Okay so, if I dressed up as the Joker, you’re saying you’d be into getting the makeup all over ya?? Here I thought you knew some spell or something! Sure, yeah.. Saturday sounds good. Uhm, what time?”

favorite class... potions. kiara excelled in chemistry in high school and though they are definitely not the same -- new words and definitions must be added to her vocabulary, but it is almost the only class she can really connect to and feel intelligent in. 

she dreads going to... honing your element i. it’s weird, for kiara is extremely excited about her element, everything about air intrigues her and she feels at home, but the class itself is overwhelming. she feels extremely behind and lost with how and what is expected of her. that feeling itself is enough to make her dread showing up every week.
