speaking a second language better than your first, like remembering a first love but not being able to feel them, just flits of memory

the moment I heard elphaba's delivery of "there's a girl i know..." in i'm not that girl i knew i had to draw this comic, i strongly recommend listening to it while you read for the full experience!
this comic is a companion to this piece (which was inspired by glinda's delivery of the same line in the i'm not that girl reprise).
pages 1-4 are from elphie's pov, pages 5-8 are from glinda's.

love letter to future self
The world wants to see you win. I want to see you win.
I think just because the pain shaped you, doesn't mean that by setting it down, you will lose yourself. These wings ache to stretch.
I look to our younger self, and there is no shame, no chastising that is needed to whip them into shape. Just a scared soul always looking over their shoulder, that searched for love without knowing how to spot it. It was always there. It was in us.
Yes bad things are going to happen, still. There are so many things I am scared of. The death of my loved ones, the regret of my decisions now. But I cannot live life trying to avoid it. Greeting another day is the most terrifying, brave thing, and I have been doing it still. I wonder what shape you've taken on. If there is anything wise you have to share, let me know. I'm still me, with all the layers of my age, and I don't think you'll be so different. Deep down, not really. I'm hoping you are free. And I am hoping you try to fly. In your own way.
Love you. Proud of you. We made it, we've just begun, everything all the time. Charm says hi from the other room.
