It is true in my heart of hearts that everyone. or at least a solid majority of people. genuinely think the inciting incident of the HuntervHollander fight is that Scott called Shane a slur. I’m being serious. There is very little that could get Hockey’s Two Goodest Boys beating each other up especially with the genuine rage Shane was displaying there. A week after the fight Shane and Scott’s agents have to force them to separately release statements that are just “I did not say something racist to one of the only Asian players in the league” and “I did not try to kill Scott because he said a racist slur to me” because the hockey community is tearing them to SHREDS absolutely convinced Scott said some heinous shit to get Shane to react like that. Which. He did. But it was a gay-on-gay hate crime and nobody was guessing that.

That being said, the public reaction also gets flipped a complete 180 after Scott comes out. The new prevailing theory is that Scott hinted at being gay and Shane immediately tried to do a homophobia about it. Suddenly Shane is getting canceled over alleged homophobia. This would be the funniest thing to ever happen to Ilya if Shane wasn’t freaking out to him about being associated with the concept of being gay even in a homophobic way. Scott and Shane have to release ANOTHER pair of statements which are “I was not trying to commit a hate crime, I did not know Scott was gay at this point in time” and “I did not tell Hollander I was gay to instigate a fight”. Once again, only some people believe them.

it is just endlessly so funny to me that a central issue in the tuna meltdown is that ilya is trying to account for shane's moves in a game of 3d chess and meanwhile shane is just desperately trying to play tic tac toe

ilya is layering his questions in like four layers of misdirect while still trying to get the answers he wants and then shane is just asking "you want me to stay?" "you want to make me food?" "do you have a girlfriend?"

ilya is out here coming up with his riddles three to see if he can cross over the becoming a boyfriend bridge, and he could have ACTUALLY DONE IT if he'd been able to ask "hey, do you want to be exclusive and not just fuck buddies?"

When Yuna has her “no son(in law) of mine will have inferior brand deals and management” takeover shortly after she learns about Shane and Ilya, how long do you think it takes her to figure out his money situation with his family?

I’m imagining her/maybe Shane playfully ribbing him about how he has no real financial manger or decent investments and what do you MEAN you just let a paycheck like that sit in your account while buying luxury cars every five minutes no wonder your net worth is shockingly low for your value, etc etc. and he’s not even offended he’s surprised and pleased that his new family is so invested in him and also enjoys watching where Shane gets some of his crazy. Like Ilya Mommy Issues Rozanov is “yes please ma’am optimize my finances and worry about my wellbeing harder” while he shovels whatever David made for dinner in his mouth.

But then at some point while she’s (lovingly) harping on his financial irresponsibility he just kind of quietly mentions that actually so much of his paycheck was going back home to his family when he was younger that he needed to blow shit on cars or whatever pretty quick if he didn’t want it to disappear. And she realizes that yeah he’s a little dummy who spent a concerning amount of money on VIP sections last year and thinks bank account interest is investing but he was also a child supporting his entire family in a foreign country with no one bothering to look out for his best interest or explain planning for a future.

David gets treated to impassioned rants every night about how “David I’m not convinced anyone even read that boy his contract in Russian”.

She starts managing him as well, obviously, and she’s kind of disturbed by how easily he just signs whatever she puts in front of him and doesn’t bother asking questions before agreeing to hand over all his management to her. He just seems thrilled she got him a Lamborghini partnership and an invite to fashion week.

The only time he puts up a fuss is when he realizes she’s not planning to take any significant cut of his money because “you’re family sweetheart” and he looks like he got smacked in the head with a shovel and has to go outside on the porch with Shane for a suspiciously long period of time.

Just to make sure it’s not suspicious that Yuna Hollander is now managing Ilya Rozanov she takes on a few more clients too. And if she specializes in managing rookies with no support network or active language barriers then that’s just a coincidence.

Post public relationship someone asks Shane and Ilya who made the first move and, without thinking, they both go "I did" which leads to them being outraged at the other one and any witnesses finding out way more than they ever wanted to know about how they got together.

Shane's like, "I was the one who introduced myself to you!" With Ilya replying "yes, but I made it romantic!" And normally Shane would never admit this under penalty of death but Ilya just engaged his competitiveness over who's responsible for their relationship so he immediately throws back, "romantic? Oh, please, you jerked off in front of me and you only did that because I was already hard." Ilya then, of course, comes back with, "you wouldn't have even been in that shower if I hadn't booked you for that commercial! And you were ready to pretend to forget it until I came to your room and kissed you."

And everyone else is just sat there thinking... I'm sorry, what happened??

Can't stop thinking about how much of a relief it must have been for Ilya to realise how insanely predictable Shane is. Like, he's lived his whole life with a mother who had horrible mental illness, a father who was unstable and always angry, a brother who couldn't even hold down a job. He's had to keep secrets and lie and read between the lines just to survive.

And here's Shane. Shane who folds his clothes before sex. Shane who will always be happy with a cold ginger beer. Shane who has a stylist and an interior decorator because he likes things to look objectively nice.

Shane who answers "How many times can you cum in an hour?" completely literally. Shane who has no filter and comments on the bed being dirty within 0.2 seconds of cumming all over it. Shane who comes out to Ilya the moment he figures it out himself, and who tells him point blank that it's not just sex, because he never ever expects Ilya to read his mind.

Their relationship is far from simple, but it's probably one of the most predictable things in Ilya's world. Shane is a safe harbour throughout the years, even while the hurricane around Ilya only gets more and more destructive.

Something that really gets to me about Ilya is how he doesn't let his traumatic upbringing make him any less kind to Shane. Shane objectively comes from a much better home environment and grew up with two loving parents, but Ilya never downplays his experiences or struggles or feelings. When David finds them in the cottage, Ilya immediately understands how horrific and nightmarish that is for Shane. And he does everything to support him and calm him down and be there for him, without ever downplaying Shane's experience or engaging in trauma olympics. And I think that's SO SO sweet and kind and so telling of his character.

Svetlana knows that Jane is a man but also she definitely 100% knows it's Shane, and the more I think about it the funnier it gets.

Like she knows that Ilya gets weird when she brings up Hollander. And she knows that he watched that documentary about his house (maybe she even knows he watched it more than once). I bet she's caught the occasional interesting word on his phone screen when she's been over his shoulder, too.

But most importantly, she's obsessed with hockey. You know she watches every one of Ilya's games. You KNOW she's seen him and Shane glancing at each other and watched the way they interact, and you better believe she clocked when they were decidedly NOT glancing at each other and both playing like absolute shit.

Normally Shane doesn't meet Ilya's eyes during their face-offs.

But in the last one he not only catches his eye but he *smiles* and Ilya fucking *melts*.

Ilya knows by this point eye contact does not come naturally to Shane so seeing him actively seek it out and seem so comfortable and relaxed probably made Ilya feel all warm and fuzzy.
