Vampires AU where v!Apo is a mailwoman that has a long day of work ahead of her but just wants to go home to her wife. They keep having to deliver mail to the strangest people who make their day harder. (It also keeps raining a little.)

Her rich boss who doesn't really care about the safety of the workers. 

A ginger who they keep getting into arguments with. 

Some writer who keeps talking about other things instead of just signing the package form so they can leave. 

A tall lady who left her very territorial dog loose out in the front yard and won't answer the door. (Pearl had left her dog in the backyard, but it got out and she hadn't realized it. She had loud music playing and was busy doing chores, so she didn't hear the frantic knocking.)

Some blond guy who keeps trying to steal the packages she is trying to deliver. 

A strange man who lives suspiciously remotely that ordered a strange package and yelled at them when he received it…. suspiciously. (This was Rouge’s idea.)

Her ex-roommate from college that she parted in bad terms with. It's still awkward.

And a lot more other people. 

Apo just wants to finish her shift, go buy her wife a gift, and go back home to them. (This AU was inspired by something Ary said.)

And to top it off she has to deliver a bunch more bills and court documents to the really freaky guy in the woods who just cracks his door open and mutters about revenge and the inherent evil of humans, every time. He doesn’t even have a mail box and her boss is insisting these papers have to get to him but whenever she tries to hand them to him he pelts them back at her.

I think the Fernsfield massacre is actually one of the most important pieces of background lore, and i'll forever mourn we didn't get to hear more about it in-series

because the thing about vsmp is that its full of characters who've caused mass amounts of death. Scott, Owen, Legundo, Cleo, Abolish

They all have varying reactions to it. Some feel guilt, others decidely do not

Scott doesn't care at all and wants to do more violence for fun, Owen feels justified and like he's right to murder more people. Abolish's job is violence, and he won't think twice.

Cleo feels horribly guilty despite not having any say in actually killing anyone, and Legundo has spent decades attempting to help as many people as he can because he has to try, even after all of his sins

And then there's Apo.

Apo hasn't killed anyone, further distancing her from other characters like Pearl, Avid and (kind of) Pyro

But Apo's seen death. So much death.

It's hard to understand the context and depth of the atrocities these characters have committed. For most of them, all we have are numbers. Hopes and dreams and livelihoods reduced to digits.

For characters like Shelby, these are distant horrors. Owen can look her in the eyes and talk about the slaughter of murderers and innocents alike, but Shelby can ignore it till someone she knows is dead. Only then does it become real, and it doesn't last.

But Apo?

Apo's lived it.

We don't know how well she knew all of the people who died, but considering they were likely her unit, she must have ate, slept, trained and worked alongside them for months to years. They were her friends, her community! She heard them talk about family back home, about dreams for the future, watched them open letters from childhood sweethearts. They did the same for her.

And if you know anything about Apo, you know how deeply they cared for the people of Oakhurst. Caring is in Apo's nature, no matter how much grief and pain and trauma.

Apo is a living embodiment of the faceless victims so many of vsmp's beloved cast members left behind.

in my heart Apo is the youngest member of the cast. Not by much, but still the youngest. Apo, Pyro and Avid are canonically the youngest pov characters with Pyro being 20-22, Avid being 19-early twenties, and Apo being the only one with a concrete age at 21.

I don’t think Avid and Pyro have to be much older than her, but I think it just Fits if Apo is youngest.

I think she’s like. Freshly 21.

(Actually because I’m evil I kinda like the idea that at one point Apo lied about her age to get her architecture job, and then got picked up by the military while still being underage, likely because of how good at it she was. (And maybe because the only person who’d miss her was Cherri…) Also I think the Fernsfield massacre happened on her birthday. Either her 21st and the massacre is Super Duper Recent, or on her 20th/19th and has haunted her ever since. But anyway)

Apo’s age is very important to the horror and tragedy of their story. It’s the fact that the people who treated them to worst were all significantly older than them—Scott, Cleo, even Sausage.

It’s the fact that Apo tries to take on positions of protection and responsibility usually afforded to people much much older than they are out of care for the people of the townsfolk, and tries their best (and succeeds! Apo actually did not an admirable amount considering their circumstances) and yet it’s never enough.

Not to mention, Apo being so young again adds depth to their dynamic with Scott. It’s the detached abusive patronizing paternalism of it all. As if Apo were a misbehaving child.

Honestly this is only just now occurring to me but. Despite Apo being A Whole Adult, if a very young one who’s still understandably figuring shit out, she very much gets The Bad Kid™️ treatment. Nobody believes her. Nobody hears her out. They’ve all decided she’s Ontologically Evil, even when she doesn’t have the power to do like at least half of the Horrible Evils people think her guilty of.

Also, it also adds further depth to her parallels with Legs—despite being so much younger, Apo has seen the same horrors. Legs caused a massacre. Apo lived one.

And wait! There’s more! Apo is characterization by her enduring hope. Every time she gives up, she pulls herself off the ground and keeps going. Apo is the hope of youth, of the future. The problems of the past shouldn’t have to be the responsibilities of the future, and yet they are anyway.

We know that Athena creates her children by herself, but what if we make it more interesting.

In some of the myths Prometheus created humans with clay and Athena gave them logic (which in this case I’ll interpret as brains to think with). So what if in the Percy Jackson series that’s how she creates her children.

With her crafts

She creates them with clay, weaves them with wool, sculpt them with stone, shapes them with glass and to bring them to life focuses her power pressuring it until she creates a soul for the body.

No one body is ever the same and she makes sure of it, dyes, gems, anything she can put inside of the body just for the purpose of having them be different.

And for a moment Athena’s child is safe in her arms and connected with her, no matter how far they are she can hear a faint heartbeat in the back of her mind,

Until the symphony loses a voice and she hears the string snaps in the back of her mind, their last words replacing the lost voice.

Can’t decide whether hellfire was married before Apo left for the military and Cherri will continue to love them, just as she always has. We got married for a reason silly. Or they get married after Apo comes back because they don’t care what she is now, their Apo came back and that’s all that matters, and they will love her despite everything that’s happened. They both hurt </3 man I love hellfire. Oh my goodness wait another thought just hit me. They were married before and Apo’s ring just so conveniently happens to be made of silver 💔 but they can’t take it off, no matter how badly it hurts. They won’t. They won’t let them take another reminder of her away from them. They would rather let it blister and burn into their finger to remind them what they’re fighting for, who they’re fighting for, then give up another thing that’s theirs to the vampires. Or it’s like an engagement ring and it’s a whole “you’d still want to marry me?” thing yknow. Freeeaaakkkkk vampires Apo and hellfire you make me insane

From my first time watching it I’d always seen them as engaged, like subconsciously, because they’re two young people who are so in love despite being torn apart by the situation. Especially if we lean into in being Victorian era ish (the timeline makes no sense I just like the Victorian era) like they’re not considered a relationship by the government that forced them apart but Apo and Cherri know better, they know they love each other enough to be married despite what society has to say about it.

I don’t know the angst of “they haven’t even gotten married yet/ I have to get home and marry her” just gets me. Apo hasn’t lived her life yet, she’s not done, this can’t be it. She has to go home.
