people don’t enjoy shipping anymore. the point of shipping isn’t the catharsis of watching them kiss onscreen, it’s grabbing the characters and mashing their faces together like you’re five years old playing Barbie in your room again. it’s to take one moment of eye contact in canon and read that over and over and over again with twenty different writers’ interpretations of the characters internal monologues if they were in love. it’s to see the characters interact and cheer because you know that’s another moment to add to your list of canon compliant fic ideas. you’re stressing yourself out, this is supposed to be fun!

I became aware of Kate Bishop and Yelena Belova because an author I adore posted a story about them on AO3. The summary was too enticing and after reading the first chapter, I fell so hard for these two.

When I say this pairing single-handedly saved many of my days, more times than I can count, I mean every word.

And even though the person because of whom I got into this fandom never wrote another fic about BishOva, or finished the one they had started, I am just so grateful that they penned down what they did and shared it with the world.

Fanfic writers and people who create art, of any kind, surrounding fictional characters and stories will forever be one of the most important breeds of unrecognised saviours for me.

Putting out one's creations for any fandom to enjoy and judge and do what they please with it takes a lot of courage. You are essentially giving away your brain babies to practical strangers. It's often too scary for me to even comprehend sometimes.

Yet I am glad people do it still.

Someone else's willingness to share with everyone their masterpieces inspires me to try to do the same. The fact that I am even able to write this stems from all those who came before me and made sure to keep my spirit going, just by virtue of letting the world enjoy their art.

So, I will forever appreciate any and all attempts to celebrate such brave and beautiful endeavours. Especially ones this creative!!!
