In the north of Rio de Janeiro, on a ridge intersecting two neighborhoods, something very special happens every day: a group of residents - who, in the past years have trained as mosaic specialists - lay a gigantic mosaic artwork
In this way the enormous work, now faded by the sun - is brought back to life for many more generations to enjoy, however this time even more beautiful and perhaps more importantly, more sustainable!
For many years they worked together with the Favela Painting project, and have since grown into project leaders themselves. They work completely autonomously from the Favela Painting studio in the heart of the neighborhood together with a team of female mosaic artists. Piece by piece, they transfer the artwork to transparent paper
Unfortunately, the Corona crisis has also affected us and we are no longer able to support the project.
Now, more than ever, there is a real need for paid work in the neighborhood, to give some hope and bring some much needed Positivity.
The whole crew hopes that it will be possible to find the funding to complete this mega-project.
The amount of time needed to complete the project depends on local circumstances such as the weather and of course on funding. We estimate that the team will be working full-time for another year and a half before this enormous job is completed.
