Wise words. They ring in his head, make blood rush to his ears.
Pride flood his chest.
As hands settle on his hips, the weary Sensei offers a click of his tongue.
“Sometimes you do, Lieutenant Abarai.” Sometimes it’s better that way. Words are unsaid, as he just bows his head in a nod. He offered words of conflict, but agrees with the sentiment none the less.
“I think knowing the answer would make you sad.”
Arms stay crossed, and he listens in silence. There’s the very brief darken of his expression, lips pulled into a frown behind the mask. She won’t see that--and he’ll mask the barest hint of disappointment in his voice.
He understands, a little too well. “Mmm. Maybe. I’ve been sad plenty of times, though. One more couldn’t possibly hurt.” A little humor, to soften the blow. Still, his gaze softens to try and put her at ease.
“I’d like to hear it someday, though. If you’re ever up to sharing. It’s apart of my job to listen, and make sure everyone can grow.”

Ah, is that so? A quick glance over to the captain. He almost looked down, time flashing before he eyes. He swore the last he saw Byakuya he was barely up to his shoulder. He takes in the haori, specifically before nodding to himself. Befitting.
Nobu’s attention snaps back to the subjects at hand, arms crossing against his chest. Memories flood his mind--not all the fondest but. All important enough. He hopes he never has to retire, seeing former students lead happy full lives.
Gives these old bones a fuzzy feeling.

His back is pressed against the bark of the tree behind him, fingers idling with stray hair that falls before his eyes. A tilt of his head, so he can peek over at Urahara. That signature smile of his barely hidden behind a fan.
Was it childish of him to laugh...Maybe.
It’s why he just settles of a crinkle of his eyes--the mask giving away nothing else. He watches the unfortunate subject of Urahara’s latest interest with the barest hint of amusement. He’d just asked for a little payback for the brat that thought himself too good for his class--using it at an opportunity to snore away.

Oh boy. Nobu takes a deep breath, fingers scratching against his mask, just to be a cheeky piece of shit. The thing might as well had been his entire face at this point. Back slouches, and he exhales through his nose slowly.
