he’s essentially a living optic nerve. the tower is there to direct and stabilize the connection held in the pupil. when he’s in the panopticon he serves as both the center of the tether to reality and the closest thing the eye has to a mind.

he can fly, but as pupil, he isn’t affected by gravity so his wings and legs are vestigial. the furthest he can reach with his body is the floor of that room.

the archivists serve as a defense system because jon is basically a vital organ and fairly physically vulnerable. they’re very fast and can fly short distances but usually just cling to walls and crawl. they have about the same level of sentience as beholding itself (not much). jon can maneuver them as external limbs but when he isn’t, they kind of just run on eye-autopilot.

I saw a ballet (L'histoire de Manon) at the Palais Garnier last week.

I've never inside been before, even though I have walked around the outside of the place on several occasions in my life - I was always too scared to tell whoever I was with that I wanted to go in.

But it was kind of overwhelming. The ballet was gorgeous, and it was wonderful to hear a full orchestra. We had the cheap seats right at the top and I was trying to be cool so I did not go and find Box 5. Next time I go (and there will be a next time!) I will buy a seat in a box and try and calm down a bit. Or maybe I'll just weep.

god im watching the ravening war campaign and its taking place over years and years and its like it starts w/ this group and theyre sort of shoved together initially, but, and aabria iyengar said it so beautifully, they were together for short enough to allow that moment to be romanticised and like that ragtag group became The Party, but because of one CRUCIAL moment their fates r blasted apart and they r forced to leave, abandon, and just lose each other, and now its sort of a major battle and theyre back together and its this heartbreaking tension of people who love and care for each other, but hav also deeply hurt each other, amplified by not seeing each other for years.
