Hi, so what are your thoughts on Jeff Lynne's hair?
Hi, Anon! Firstly, thank you greatly for asking me this question. What a treat! Secondly, this took me longer than I expected! I got really into this lol.
Hmm…Jeff’s hair. It is a big part of his look, isn’t it? To make it easier, let me start off by saying that my least favorite hairstyles of his are when his hair had tighter/defined curls which occurred a little bit circa 1974 and sometimes during the OOTB era. I don’t find that look as flattering on him in most cases. I’m sure there are some photos which he looks good and that I have even blogged them but the majority of the ones I’ve seen with the stronger curls don’t do anything for me. Also, forget about his mid to late ‘80s hair, too. Dad hair.
However, my absolute favorite is probably Jeff’s hair during The Move and early ELO years. I also like his hair in The Old Grey Whistle Test interview while promoting Face the Music, and in the Discovery/Time eras (1979-1981) with the shorter hair. The latter was kind of edgier and went well with his sleek dressing style at the time.
Now, it’s time for some examples:
The earlier years. It was slightly longer and a nice mix of fluffy, soft curls with some defined ones. Here he is sporting that look in 1972. Very flattering.
Below: This is a similar look but it’s a little closer to his face and it’s around the time of Face the Music. I also really like when his beard was trimmed/groomed in such a way that you could see more of his face in general, especially his cheeks.
Lastly, the Discovery/Time hairstyles:
It could be a combination of his sharper style, but what a look! Something about that hair coupled with the blazer really did something for him. I find it very well styled and the beard goes with it, too.
Overall, I like the curly hair but I prefer his hair a little softer and wilder with the volume haha.
