This is over-interpretation, but I'm cool with it

Does cutting weeds to drop Hyrule rice mean that most of the flat grassland would have been farmland? A century of calamity has turned good land into wilderness and rice into weeds. Maybe a lot of agricultural knowledge was lost. Doesn't the more memories of Link recover the more painful it becomes? Because of the realisation of what has really been lost. Beneath the green grass are the bones of corpses, the sky is high and the clouds would have overshadowed the pavilions. The social structure of the Hylians is a throwback to the early days of farming and fishing.

There is probably not even a decent blacksmith in the whole of Hyrule, and the best weapons the Hylians can make are probably the Brigandine series, which have really low offensive power. The blunt, heavy iron of Gorons was not suitable for the Hylians. The Royal Weapon range that Link had taken from the monsters had very high attack power, and that was all stuff that had been rusted and unmaintained for a hundred years; think of what they would have looked like, and think of the smelting techniques used a hundred years ago.

Estimates based on the size of the villages and the level of productivity suggest that a village would have no more than two hundred people. Add in the resident staff of the stables and the travellers and the total population of the five races in the whole of Hyrule is probably only fourteen hundred. Look at that thriving market in the setting set; the population must have been in the ten thousand range a hundred years ago.

Can't say whether Zelda, who had a hundred years to digest it all, or Link, who forgot a clean slate, is better off.
