No because this only infuriates me more. I’ve only watched that last scene once and haven’t had the strength to go back to it so my memory isn’t too clear. But this is so fucking true. Eve and Villanelle literally could’ve just duck and ran back into the fucking boat and they most likely would’ve survived and gotten help.
But of course they didn’t do that and instead jumped off the fucking side because of the shock factor…I fucking hate that this was pointed out.
This thought literally woke me up in the middle of the night. To add to it, the vantage point of the sniper makes zero sense. To get the a clear shot of Villanelle on the boat and also on the complete opposite side while in the dark water…. Was the gunman a drone???
I’d also like to point out that shooting Villanelle multiple more times in the water defies the laws of physics.
In case you’re wondering, Mythbusters tested how “bulletproof” water is in one episode.
Bullets lose their velocity and therefore their impact when they hit water. A bullet works extra hard against the drag of the current which means there would only be impact up to about 3-4 feet in the water.
When Villanelle and Eve threw themselves off the boat, it’s made clear they’re already deep in the water and sinking. So Villanelle is way out of range of the bullets.
The Thames is also a swiftly flowing river, which means lots of drag. Furthermore, there is an exact angle of 30 degrees that the firearm must be angled at in order for the bullets to even pierce the water.
Then the gun itself would have to be extra powerful, like a machine gun. Of course, a sniper rifle would have a lot of punch and it would also depend on the caliber of bullets used.
But there is no way it was angled at exactly 30 degrees from Tower Bridge. Plus precisely because it’s a sniper rifle, the distance doesn’t help-because distance increases drag in the water.
On top of this, the speed of the shots that Villanelle is hit with makes no sense. Because of physics, combined with the density and depth of water, the faster a bullet goes, the more resistance there is.
In other words, the bullets would literally be so slow by the time they’re fired at Villanelle that there wouldn’t even be impact.
So not only did Villanelle absolutely not need to die, but this entire scenario is so unprofessional and implausible that it doesn’t even pass basic suspension of disbelief.
I am tired of not being able to enjoy cute moments of queer ships.
I am just so tired of knowing that the moment they get happy that means a death sentence for them.
I cried during all the soft moments of Villaneve because I just knew what will be the cost of them, we have been here so many times.
I am tired of TV writers using queer storylines as something disposable, I am tired of them acting like if they did us a favor by giving them moments just for one of them to be killed in the most stupid way ever, that served of no point to the plot.
I am just so tired. Queer characters deserve better WE deserve better.
The entire energy for the finale should’ve stayed with Eve and Villanelle being goofy while the song “Don’t You Want Me” played.
Had they kept that energy the entire way through this would’ve been the best ending to such an incredible series. That for four seasons of so much pain, heartbreak, and betrayal that we finally were rewarded for our dedication to the show with a final episode filled with so much fulfillment and joy.
I don’t know why shows think that shocking the audience = good storytelling. You can end shows in a way that still remain truthful to the story and also give fans a satisfying conclusion. Sense8 did that brilliantly.
They could’ve saved themselves had they just not added those extra three minutes…that’s literally all it would’ve taken.
NOTHING HIT LIKE THIS TWEET
killing off a character to fulfil a greater overarching narrative, to bring things to an appropriately devastating end, to create a further plot point that demands resolution - that’s one thing
killing off a character ten minutes after finally allowing her the tiniest bit of genuine joy with the woman she loves after four years of watching her question and grow and deliberately giving her a story arc of feeling unloveable, incomplete, a monster, trying to believe she’s more than her conditioning - that’s quite another
Nothing proves that the people who made this season are self indulgent assholes more than them making posts that say shit like "Even if you didn't enjoy it, I did!" The entertainment business is an industry that provides a service just like anything else. If you're not in it at least partially for the people you're making it for, you should find another calling. A show is only successful when fans watch it. If no one watches, you get cancelled. For them to so flippantly disregard us and act like we don't matter only continues to add to this dumpster fire
What they don't seem to understand is that hard work does not equate to good work. You can be proud of the effort you put into something (like how technically difficult it was to film the scene) while simultaneously acknowledging the negative impact it had. They seem to think they're not responsible because they had good intentions, but intent is not impact. Somebody needs to get that through their thick ass skulls
The way that this actually would've been a better ending though
okay I can’t find the leaks again at this moment but I SWEAR in the summer of 2021 people were posting on Twitter and here that Eve and Villanelle were in front of a Russian cafe?? like Sandra and Jodie were at a little table with Russian cafe signs in front of it and people were theorizing that they made it to Russia
I know I didn’t hallucinate this I KNOW and now I’m thinking this was one possible ending they actually shot then fucking....cut
Drag them
