It was definitely Rockets Redglare. I used to live in the East Village and knew people who had known him. He evidently bragged about it and wore it like a badge of honor, he was responsible for killing the icons of punk. He got what he deserved, in time. By the time of their death, Nancy was in effect acting as Sid's "manager" and accountant. The latter consisted of carrying huge wads of cash on her person at all times because Sid couldn't be trusted with his own money (he was ridiculously high pretty much all the time and was constantly nodding off), and they could care less about keeping their cash in the bank. They needed constant cash for drugs, booze, parties, taxis, hotels, carry out and restaurants, etc. Sid had just gotten his royalties from his solo album, and they were loaded. Nancy was literally carrying thousands of dollars in her purse everywhere she went, and they were hanging out with the bottom of the barrel street level drug dealers drug addicts, homeless people/transients, prostitutes & pimps, weirdos, gutter punks, vultures and hangers-on. No one in their circle was savory, and they were staying in a flop house (the Chelsea). Evidently, Rockets Redglare and some shady character who had been hanging around decided to steal Sid and Nancy's cash when they nodded off. Sid was passed out on a massive dose of barbituates, Nancy nodded off on dope. Rockets Redglare and his accomplice broke into the room (some accounts say Nancy frequently left the door unlocked due to people coming and going constantly), tried to take the money, but were caught in the act by Nancy who attacked them, and was stabbed as a result. When Sid awoke he had no idea what had happened and thought he may have killed her accidentally while blacked out. Interesting to note that when they arrested Sid and took Nancy's body away, his cash was gone from the room and was never accounted for. No explanation was ever offered by the cops, nor was it investigated. NYPD hated punks, and they gleefully pinned Nancy's murder on the punk icon Sid Vicious. One look at him when they entered the room, Sid covered in Nancy's blood due to holding her body and trying to revive her, and they had their man. Case closed. Rockets Redglare and his friends bought a bunch of dope, got high and laughed while watching the events unfold in the media while they got away scot-free. Scumbag.
