christ i no joke lie awake sometimes thinking about that specific aspect of the game like. even if you could argue that the initial setup of a corrupt world and the dicothomy between lust and purity is a bit cliché it's cliché for a reason

the choice of lust as the source of depravity is also really good given how many of the other deadly sins easily fall under the umbrella of lust?? wrath can be conflated with particularly violent assault or sadism, envy needs no introduction when kylar or the other possessive lis exist, gluttony can easily be paired with the whole thing of needing to become one to the point of cannibalising another or craving their blood, greed is a monster already sweeping the town with exploitation being rampant and hell even sloth and just enjoying life with indulgences works out and don't get me started on pride and its satisfaction through degrading others or having your ego fed by being carnally desired

its the perfect gate for actual horrors brought about by a "sinful evil" and the fact that the alternative is not actual abstinence but attempts to desexualize sex to the point of ridding it of all it represents and what makes it human is Wild like. do you guys ever think about how the temple rapidly tries to brainwash people into thinking that everything from purging over contrition to the wall is normal? that it's not really carnal in nature at all, but just a necessity? like how incredibly fucked up is it to think of clergymen and women among their ranks who are punished for breaking their vows through something the temple rationalizes as better than what the very forces they're fighting against would see all people reduced to, just a horrid blur of using others and being used?

that's not even touching the idea of a town being slowly corrupted as the rich elite indulge in what will surely end them all for what? some carnal enjoyment? the elks feel above it all, watching the foxes be torn apart at their parties. they view it as little more than amusement for a gathering, how many do you think even understand what the ritual represents?

correct me if i'm wrong, but i do feel this tends to stem from a lot of people divorcing sexuality and eroticism from human nature. it gets degraded to being a "base instinct" or some animal urge, but the way we engage with sex and kink is actually a valid way of interacting with the world around us. it's cathartic, it's freeing and it is almost one of the best ways to display character dynamics or certain contexts in art, i stand by it. is it a show of equality? or dominance or submission? how much of it is the people involved letting go and how much of it is them putting on a show for one reason oe another, even during the most vulnerable moments?

sex is inherently human, it's part of the human experience. no matter how you feel about it, like it, hate it, don't feel anything towards it or desire for it— it doesn't change the fact. even if we were to entertain the notion that it is something base and animal, that still doesn't diminish its worth. people are animals. it's a fact often forgotten due to fear, disgust or a desperate need to rise above the simple facts of our bodies. to disregard the animal in you is to try and sever a dichotomy that defines humanity itself.

there are valid concerns about the inclusion of the erotic for monetary reasons or for exploitation, but that is not the fault of sexual content itself. if a piece of media feels genuinely predatory in its eroticism, it is not the fault of sex being allowed in media. it is the fault of people using it to do harm.

puritanism doesn't work. censorship doesn't work. you need to understand that the tools at hand are valid and important, but easily misused. they're not the enemy to art, morality or the rational mind you think they are.
