“Day three of Luxor. I suspect my dorm room is haunted by an angry ghost. Also,” Ethan took a sip of orange juice, “the cafeteria is out of coffee. This college education thing is really riveting.”
“That feels like a sin. Most of this place feels like a sin, but that is--” Kim shook her head while she rolled her eyes. “Heinous. Absolutely heinous.” There were few things that Kim found she relied on, but a morning cup of coffee was one of them. “Maybe the ghost should deal with that problem instead.”
“I am pretty sure people are fucking in that classroom,” Nikki declared, listening at the closed door of what she had thought was an empty classroom. Based on the moans and other noises coming out of there, clearly she had been wrong. “Which do you think it is? Teachers or students?”
“Why not both?” Kim looked up from her phone, sending a sideways glance toward the room with the noises. “I mean, I am sure stranger things have happened here.” She paused her tapping on the screen for a moment to think about. “There has been stranger things. I mean, for all we know it could be an orgy.” Oh, her mother would never approve of that. “I suppose we all have extracurriculars, just some more...intimate than others.”
Is that KIMAYA “KIM” GANGULI? Wow, they do look a lot like SIMONE ASHLEY. I hear SHE is/are a TWENTY THREE year old CIS WOMAN SENIOR who are studying ENGLISH - LINGUISTICS at Luxor University. a few things to know about our dear friend kim. first, it’s not kimaya, its kim. kimaya is for her mother’s particular use. and that use is usually when she’s irritated beyond all measure.
secondly, she’s stubborn. she’s abrasive, she’s snarky and she’s cunning. she has lived in a world that revolved around the survival of the fittest and that survival depending on your ability to outwit your opponent. (truthfully, i’d love to watch her play survivor, but let’s be real--kim would not touch an island without a working toilet)
kim does not have a good relationship with her immediate family. her mother is much too pushy and manipulative in her own right, forcing kim to do all the things that elevated the ganguli name--and nothing that elevated her own self worth or happiness. her father was happier to live in the background of her life, a revolving bank and nothing more. it might sound crude but he preferred it this way. he wanted sons--instead he got two daughters. a disappointment but one he could whisk away well enough.
the only person kim was ever truly close with was her grandmother--a sassy, spunky, intelligent woman who had spent her days finding the right balance between aristocracy and freedom. she could act like the perfect lady during the day but when the moment provided, she could easily also be found diving into dante or learning to shoot. she was everything kim ever wanted to be.
it was her grandmother that led her to the realization that she wanted to be a doctor. there was something that fascinated her about the complexity of the human body and all the ways the body can be healed--and also the ways it could not be. the structure of science and the magic of living intertwined themselves effortlessly in her eyes and to practice medicine would be to hone that power.
but--her mother would never allow it. unlike her grandmother, her mother was an all or nothing kind of woman. and she was all in for aristocracy. of course a lady reads but never something as boring or informative as a medical manual. and a lady certainly never gets her hands messy. no no, medical studies would not be for kim.
(tw: Alzheimer’s) there comes a time in everyone’s life though--that the magic fades and reality strikes. as kim grew closer to college and having to decide her life--or what her mother had picked, anyway, her grandmother was slipping away. there were many times that kim had gone to visit her grandmother to have to remind her of her own name, relationship and even core memories that kim had with her. the pain of watching her own grandmother forget her existence when she was the only that truly saw her was too much for kim to bear.
(tw: death) kim could not handle her grandmother’s death. while she was physically present, she felt like her own soul floated away the same time her grandmother passed. and why not? it was not as if anyone else knew her--truly knew her. why would she try to let anyone else in, when all that was going to happen was heartbreak when they left? a wall formed inside her, afraid to let people in--and reminding herself that the only person who would not let her down was herself.
so kim went off to college--luxor college. it was the only acceptable place for kim to go and there was a bit of fight lost from her from her grandmother’s passing. she choose english, specifically linguistics, as she felt it was far enough away from any sort of medical field she could avoid her mother’s brash remarks and the painful memory of her grandmother. but linguistics offered her structure, something she had always relished in.

don’t make the mistake of calling her kimaya, just don’t.
has a beloved horse named mitsy, grew up riding her--it’s her personal solace. when she is practicing her steeplechase for the school’s equestrian team, it’s the only time she feels like she can be herself. don’t interrupt her on that time, its a near death sentence.
she is currently taking linguistics, women studies and french.
she had a toy corgi back home named sir reginald the fifth and she missed him dearly
her favorite food is taco bell--but tell anyone and she will deny it
her guilty pleasure is making tiktok trends but never posting them and just keeping them in her drafts. though she will say those restock videos are absolutely satisfying for sure.
don’t be fooled--kim wants to make friends. but she’s not willing to be vulnerable enough to actually for relationships of any substance and she won’t admit to be bothered by it.
