"What I think is quite clear is,is that we can work together in the last analysis. And that what has been going on within the United States over the period of the last three years, the divisions, the violence, the disenchantment with our society, the divisions whether it's between blacks and whites, between the poor and the more affluent or between age groups or on the war in Vietnam, that we can start to work together. We are a great country and a compassionate country. And I intend to make that my basis for running over the period of the next few months.
"The country wants to move in a different direction. We want to deal with our own problems within our own country and we want peace in Vietnam.
...So on to Chicago and let's win there."
Moments later Sen. Robert Kennedy would be shot and die the next morning.
Since that time Americans didn't carry on Bobby's vision. They got angry and stayed angry. They changed and not for the good. Vietnam saw no peace but many of our brave died or suffered from it. Politics no longer a profession to make a difference. It became about power. Materialism. America's been paying for it since.
If Bobby mattered then the work he started needs to be done. With compassion and love not hate. If RFK tried to work with LBJ then we must try to work with those we can't stand like some feel about Trump. We need to get rid of this bitterness and get back to working towards the reconciliation of men.
Then work to bring ripples of hope in our society, our country and nations around the world. So let's get passed our negativity because the work to be done is too great to let it flourish.
