The cheapest hotel in the Narita airport area opened on July 20, offering rooms – or capsules – starting at 3,900 yen ($38) a night.

Japan is aiming to more than double the number of travelers from abroad by 2020 to boost the economy as a shrinking population damps demand for domestic travel, according to the Japan Tourism Agency.
