Poor guy :(

I’m obsessed with this because this woman is me (if I had a cricut). I make fun of all this shit but also I am SO into it. The balance between genuine lust for a good Pinterest craft and pure sarcasm in her voice is amazing. 10/10
Also? Cool of her to make something clever that kids can just go up to and take a pencil instead of possibly embarrassing themselves by asking around for one if they don’t have one, forgot it, etc.

We gotta start taking "child having an absolute meltdown in public" not just as a circumstance to be compassionate about, but as the valuable opportunity it is.
I personally like to close my eyes and pretend I'm the one who's screaming.
Scream for us all, little nugget.
Every time a child screams or cries out of nowhere I intentionally say “me too” or “couldn’t have said it better myself” or something similar before the parent can try to apologize.
OUR MELTDOWN
You’ve got it all sussed out, don’t you?
OUR FLAG MEANS DEATH 1.04 “Discomfort in a Married State”
just remembered a fic on AO3 (or more likely LJ because it had that distinct late 00's experimental vibe) that appeared double-spaced oddly, in that some paragraphs would be spaced normally and others would have double or even triple spaces in between. it was about one half of the otp getting over the other's death (or coma, can't remember which), so all the comments were about how poignant the use of visual spacing was as a means to convey all the emotional holes in the character's life.
and then the author replied like... *giggle* guys it's NOT double spaced. try selecting the whole text
and we were all like "no WAY"
but we selected the text, and yes!!!
the "holes" in the story? they were actually lines and actions from the dead/coma character's ghost, rendered invisible to the eye by the simple trick of coloring the text the exact same as the background, revealed by nothing more than a click and a drag of the mouse
a story about the profound loneliness of losing your the partner of your life and having to make do without them, without anything to fill the holes they'd left behind, suddenly became a story about the profound helplessness of seeing someone you love suffer from your absence while you are right there, unable to do anything about it, unable to communicate that you love them enough to suffer unseen and unheard with them, just to keep them company they'll never know about
it was then that I truly realized how *superior* the digital medium is to plain printed paper, how the medium and the format can add to a story.
I think about that fic about once a year. I wish I could find it again
ok but imagine being one of the people who found that out on ACCIDENT
this minute long clip from make some noise made me feel more emotions than any oscar bait drama i've ever seen or ever will see
Moment of silence for Panic! At the Disco I guess

How does it feel to be the funniest person on my dash today
a knife? are you flirting with me?
Whenever I’m reading fanfic in public and start to get a lil embarrassed I’m gonna try and remember that time where everyone’s moms were reading terrible twilight fanfic and talking about how great it was
Okay but get this… Imagine an AU of Twilight where Edward is a young millionaire and Bella is a new college graduate. Imagine if someone published that and it got, like, extremely popular. And then flash forward a few years later hundreds of copies of it are rotting in every used bookstore and Goodwill in America indefinitely
Sounds like a crappy fanfic tbh. Sounds familiar though? Did someone write this?
Don’t worry, this never happened. Nobody would ever write a CEO!Edward Cullen sex fanfic and publish it. If you thought that happened then it was just a bad dream don’t worry
Here’s a ray of sunshine for you
I turn 30 next month so here’s what I learned in my 20s:
—don’t work for startups, they’re always one ‘innovative idea’ away adding ‘sell your kidneys on the black market’ to your job description.
—keeping a collection of basic OTC medicine on you will save your life one day. I recommend Advil, Imodium, and TUMS.
—those little single-use glasses cleaning wipes are 1000% worth the money
—overly self-depreciating jokes just make people uncomfortable, wean yourself off of them
—you can buy dehydrated mini marshmallows in bulk online and they’re a godsend for hot cocoa
—people don’t care if you have fidget toys on your desk they just want to play with them
—try to go to bed BEFORE the existential ennui kicks in
Also drink water and eat a plant
This is all GREAT. I turned 40 last week, so permit me to add what I learned in my 30s:
keep on not working for startups
sometimes there comes a point where the thing (fandom, hobby, friendship, romantic relationship) you loved no longer brings you joy. And that's okay. Try to mourn the loss, take joy in the memories, and don't burn any bridges in case ten years go by and you find yourself back in that fandom/hobby/relationship again
it turns out that (ugh) moderate regular exercise is (spit) good for you. The sooner you make it part of your life, the easier it'll be
related: if you throw yourself into a new exercise regime too hard and too fast, without stopping to rest or consider whether a particular move is good for you ... well, shoulder injuries are painful and consults with orthopedic surgeons are expensive
knees are bastards too
don't even get me started on ankles
there may come a time when your digestive system is too fragile for ibuprofin. I'm sorry
one day you're gonna wake up and realise you no longer give any fucks about some things that used to bother you
on the other hand, you might be alarmed to realise what you still give a fuck about
never get down on the floor without an exit strategy for getting back up
I turn 50 this year. what I have learned in my 40s:
"loving yourself" is less of a feeling and more of an action. you can start doing it any time and it will make your life better and better as you go on
this will happen incrementally - be patient
along those lines, if you haven't started making an active effort to quit shit-talking yourself, suck it up and do it
no, shut up. do it. "but it's haaaaard!" don't care. do it.
whether you like it or not, you are mortal and you need to go to the doctor for an annual checkup
stretch regularly - your future self will thank you
at some point you will encounter people much younger than you arguing passionately and incorrectly about history you personally remember and experienced
this will be infuriating and annoying
otoh, most other things just... will not matter to you as much
at some point you will shift from wanting to go out to being like "eh" and deciding to stay in. this is okay.
you will have absolutely no idea what The Youth are talking about and you will not care
but if you keep your mind open to new ideas you'll never be irrelevant
your company still doesn't love you - don't give them more than they pay you for
get a fucking hobby, especially a hobby that involves physically creating/handling something and/or moving your body in physical space. it will do you more good than you can imagine
I am now 60 so let me tell you what I’ve learned (in addition to all that above, which is true).
Never stop learning. I’ve just spent nearly 3 years learning to speak Welsh. Next might be Italian. Do puzzles. Learning and doing puzzles keeps your mind active.
You will notice that with every decade, the field in which you grow your fucks to give becomes more and more barren.
Say what you want. Dress how you want. Decorate your space how you want. Life is short and you might as well be happy.
Some things won’t bother you at all anymore (see point three). Some new things will bother you a LOT, particularly rude drivers and anti-homeless architecture. There’s not a lot you can do, but if you can do something, do it. Run for county commission. Sit in in town meetings. Speak up.
Realize you can’t use your body in ways you used to, nor neglect your body the way you used to. Still, Move and Do.
Eat good food. Take your meds.
Travel if you have the opportunity and means. It’s not too late to take a hike or stare at the ocean and feel small. Don’t go to a different culture and expect them to act like you. Watch how life works for them and learn something.
Your mind will not be able to conceive how old you are. Surely it’s impossible for all the things that have happened to you to have happened. Surely you didn’t have your first job 40 years ago. This is hard to reconcile; sometimes you just have to sit with it.
That thing about having a hobby? OMG do it. It will take you through times of loneliness. Creativity makes one feel alive. Do your hobby even if you’re bad at it, and quit judging yourself.
If you have a Someone, love them. Laugh with them. Maybe 20 years from now you’ll still be doing it but maybe one of you won’t be that lucky
Have sex if you have a partner. It still feels good, your body works and it isn’t gross. Remember that STDs are high among retirees, newly widowed who never thought of using condoms back in the 70s. Have fun but don’t be stupid.
If you had kids, realize that you won’t hear from them very often, even if you were a decent parent and had good relationships with them. They are adults now and adulting is HARD. It takes all one’s time and energy. If you’re lucky though they’ll ask your opinion or advice.
Keep up with technology if you can. Don’t be That Grandma who can’t work the remote.
Your Earnings Statement matters. Make some $$ so you won’t be destitute in your old age.
Ima say this one again: Have fun but don’t be stupid
Transmasc: "Because of the societal association with housework and chores being 'women's work', being asked to do them can sometimes make me dysphoric, especially if a cis male sibling is not also being asked to do so, I think-" Person with 1 brain cell: "So you're saying you shouldn't have to do housework or chores because you're a man and it makes you ~feel bad~? lmao, as if anyone needed any more proof that trans men are definitely men. Go wash some dishes you misogynist." Transmasc: "...I think that the solution to this is probably to continue to normalize housework/chores as something everyone does and something that should be expected of people in equal measure..."
Growing up I was the only one of my siblings who did any chores at all. My level of perfection at the chores was held to a very high standard by my bitch of a stepmum to the point where my friends called me Cinderella and weren't even being dramatic. It was treated as 'educating me for my future life with my own kids' to look after everyone and Yadda Yadda. The point is, I have some very complex issues surrounding it which mingled nastily with my gender dysphoria too.
When I presented female, I was treated as if I were brave for defying gender roles when I spoke of not wanting to do chores any more. That all changed dramatically when I transitioned, requiring me to reveal a lot of the Why they I never did before in other to justify why chores were so hard for me.
It used to really hold me back until I worked on it gradually but the assumption that laziness is the only reason people don't do chores and that men are always lazy is itself perpetuating toxic masculinity. You're not being feminist by perpetuating gender stereotypes.
