The story is set in the town of Lawless, Illinois, during Prohibition, where brewed liquor dominates the black market. Angelo Lagusa, a young man whose family was murdered in a mafia dispute, seeks revenge against the Vanetti Family, responsible for the slaughter. After seven years in hiding following the night of the murder, Angelo receives an anonymous and revelatory letter prompting him to return to Lawless and exact his revenge against tge culprits. Under the name of Avilio Bruno, he begins to infiltrate the Vanetti Family by slowly befriending the don’s son, Nero. He plans every assassination cautiously until he finally manages to kill all the members of the Vanetti family, except one; Nero Vanetti, with who he had made bonds of friendship. Anyway Nero doesn’t forgive his actions and murders Angelo, whose corpse is swallowed by the ocean.

One morning, as office worker Kobayashi gets ready for another day at work, she is greeted by a terrifying sight—the head of a large dragon staring into her eyes from across the balcony. The dragon immediately transforms into a cute, busty and energetic young girl in a maid outfit, who introduces herself as Tohru. It turns out that during a drunken excursion to the mountains many weeks ago, the typically stoic Kobayashi encountered the dragon, who claims to have come from another world. After her life is saved by Kobayashi, she falls in love with her and starts living in her flat as a maid, since Tohru has no place to stay and Kobayashi offers to let the dragon stay at her home. Despite initial reluctance, a mix of guilt and Tohru’s dragon abilities convinces Kobayashi to accept her. However, despite being extremely efficient at housework, Tohru’s unorthodox methods of housekeeping often end up scaring Kobayashi and bringing more trouble than help.  On top of it all, Tohru’s presence ends up attracting other mythical beings to her new home, bringing in a new host of eccentric personalities Tohru’s father disapproves of Tohru’s relationship with Kobayashi due to their beliefs as Chaos dragons and because of a non-interference rule about Earth. But when Tohru refuses to leave, he could not force her due to her overwhelming power and accepts her choice. Tohru chooses to stay with her beloved Kobayashi also if it means to see her eventually die in the future
