Plans afoot for Dubai’s first underwater hotel

The Water Discus hotel has been designed by Polish company Deep Ocean Technology (DOT) with the help of Swiss firm BIG InvestConsult AG. The hotel will comprise of two discs - one under the water, and one suspended above the water. The discs will be connected by five legs, and a vertical shaft in the center housing stairs and a lift.

The underwater section will be up to 10 meters beneath the sea surface, and contain 21 double rooms adjacent to a dive center and a bar. Each room has been designed to ‘integrate with the underwater world as closely as possible’.

Caux Collective Redirects: Craighton Berman

This year, Chicago-based Industrial Designer & Illustrator, Craighton Berman,decided it was time somebody designed an ingenious way of quantifying creative output. As an apparent advocate of the saying, ‘if you want something done properly, do it yourself’, he took it upon himself to do so. This process spawned the beginning of ‘The Campaign for the Accurate Measurement of Creativity’.

Times Square’s New Heart Formed with Salvaged Hurricane Sandy Debris

A sweet yet meaningful new art installation was recently unveiled in Times Square. Brooklyn-based design firm Situ Studio created Heartwalk, a heart-shaped enclosure made from boardwalk boards salvaged from the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. Collected both from New York and New Jersey, the boards form a slatted construction that lifts from the ground and is illuminated from within. Visitors are encouraged to enter the installation and literally stand in the heart of the city. (via: mymodernmet)
