I’ve been thinking about the update and one thing that stood out to me was this doorway in the Echo video.

It doesn’t feel like just Homes door, it feels different. Eddie says at the beginning of the video that he needs to “go home” and Frank tries to clarify the post office but Eddie says no and repeats “Home” and gets up (forgive me for not getting screenshots of the transcript, the damn bug refuses to work on Mobil so I can’t load the page with the transcript, screenshots from a separately uploaded video)

The way Eddie said home feels like he’s referring to his real life home, not the one within Home but his VA’s home, but the lines are becoming more and more blurred and the characters are losing their grip on the difference between Home and the real world. When Frank tries to follow Eddie to talk to him, something unknown stops him and not even Frank seems entirely sure if he stopped himself or if it was Wally who stopped him.

It’s hard to say for sure if Frank was too scared to go through the door because he can’t remember what’s through it and thus couldn’t bring himself to go even if it was for Eddie or if Wally for some reason doesn’t want him to go through and potentially remember his life outside of home, but either way something kept him from going through and I feel like it has something to do with how blurred lines are becoming between their lives in Home and outside of Home.

This video also has me thinking maybe Home didn’t do anything to Eddie and just him sitting in the quiet alone led him to his breakdown, by being forced out of his role he was reminded of the world outside of home and him forgetting about it caused his breakdown and panic and need to get out.

Even as he frantically is trying to leave though he still hesitates and looks back at Frank, he seems conflicted about leaving but still ultimately does. I’m not sure if he doesn’t want to leave Frank behind or wants him to come with. I know Clown said they hoped this update would help us piece things together but I’m left with far more questions then answers.

I know the scene plays out the way is does for dramatics and game purposes but does anyone else think about Susie in chapter 4 of Deltarune standing outside of Kris’s house because she doesn’t want to be in there with drunk adults that likely remind her too much about her bad home life but also can’t bring herself to completely leave Kris alone with them and stays close so they don’t have to be alone? Or the fact that no matter how many times you talk with her Kris repeatedly tells Toriel they want to go to bed before the game can give us a choice because they don’t want to be anywhere near her when she’s like this?

Look look I know I keep promising other posts discussing stuff but look ADHD brain ADHD's sometimes if you know you know, but while at work today another great scene in chapter 4 of Deltarune got in my head and I need to scream about it.

At the end of the Titan fight we all know about the epic scene where Susie jumps with Kris into the Titan so they can use their soul to defeat it? And Susie acknowladges its dangerous because they are putting their life in her hands, but after she tells Kris she has a plan, its the only option you have in ACT's because Kris trusts Susie without any doubt with their life?

And you start as if Susie is going to throw Kris

but then she changes her mind?

AND JUMPS IN WITH KRIS

Not only has Susie decided she's not going to just throw Kris into an unknown situation alone, she is physically with Kris IN THE DARK. SHE IS WITH US IN THE DARK. The deepest darkness she dives in with us, no questions asked and just trusts it will be okay and providing support for Kris because she is their friend and wants to be there with them, no matter how deep the darkness is she will be there with them in the darkness.

Slight spoilers for chapter 4 of Deltarune

I am working on something else and this doesn't really fit anywhere in it but I just adore this detail that Susie and Ralsei help Kris back up to their feet every time the knight knocks them down. It just shows how much they care about Kris that they instantly are carefully getting them back to their feet.

I think this moment also helps show just how hard the Knight hits because all three are knocked off their feet when they take the Knights hits when normally no one gets knocked down like this when they're hit by attacks like this. If it was just Kris you could argue they're trying to slow everyone down by pretending to get knocked down but we even see Susie go down each hit and Ralsei helps her back to her feet.

On that note, why doesn’t Kris help the others to their feet? We know they have some control over certain choices.

(Also when they’re in front it looks like they’re holding Susie’s hand and that’s cute I think)

I have some thoughts about that actually. I’ve been working on a larger post about snowgrave about how much autonomy Kris really has and basically the simple version is I don’t think they can necessarily always do what they want and override the player whenever they please I think it can only happen under certain scenarios. For example in chapter 1 Kris defends Susie during arguably a cutscene. The play can’t make any inputs or make Kris do anything so they have a little wiggle room to do something like defend Susie (that or the game forced Kris to defend Susie as apart of the cutscene but I have a feeling it’s the former)

Chapter 3 during the Shadow Mantle fight we see Kris back away from Tiny Kris, but we are clearly controlling Tiny Kris so I think the soul is with Tiny Kris so Kris has autonomy in the moment because the soul isn’t directly with them.

Chapter 4 the first time you try and say something mean to Ralsei, Kris yawns to cover up the word “not” from the Phrase “Of course not” to make it “of course” it seems Kris has to say the words we tell them too, but they can try and cover up words to try and get what they want to say out. Later on if you tell Ralsei to keep smiling they can’t do much to change that and some people argue Kris was so shocked you told them to say that they didn’t have time to think of a way to cover that up and make it better. And there is also the scene with Susie and Kris coming to defend her when she thinks the old man is attacking her, arguably again the Soul is “with” Susie in battle which means it’s not with Kris which again I think gives them autonomy

This scene however isn’t a cutscene because we have direct player control, there is no prompts for the player to say anything so they don’t have much ability to talk I think. In instances where Kris says something to someone without input directly we had them talk or call so they just spit out what they wanted to say before we could tell them something while here we don’t have that option. So I think in this moment they really can’t help their friends up as much as I imagine they desperately want to help them up. And in the moment I think Ralsei just knows Kris can’t do anything because he seems to know about the player and Susie thinks they just tanked to many hits from the knight and is barely on their feet as it is so is physically unable to which is why neither seem bothered by this fact.

But that’s just my own headcannon lolz 😂

Ykw, that makes sense: a lot of choices they make aren’t always made until we actually prompt them to act. And we can’t make choices during a cutscene, so unless addressed by another character they kinda just. Stand there.

So I've seen people discuss a scene in Chapter 4 of deltarune being the best, but not really discussing why its so good. And people probably just know/don't feel the need to share or even have and I didn't see. I still want to discuss why I love it solely because Susie.

So the scene in question is the scene where the fun gang is trying to get through the dark hall with the knight attacking them in chapter 4. The three of them are getting repeatedly hit by the Knights attacks and we don't have any way to dodge these attacks, making Susie realize that they could die if this keeps up.

(Susie doesn't say it but we all know she's thinking it) almost immediately the SOUL responds creating a light so they can see and try to dodge the attacks. (It's unclear if its supposed to be implied the player did this or the SOUL on its own deciding to do this, but either way)

Susie even comments on this light, shocked and confused but the group pushes forward, until Kris is down to one HP, and before the final strike that Susie thinks will kill Kris, Susie pushes Kris behind her and takes the blow instead.

Susie has battled with Kris quiet a bit, she can probably tell Kris can't take another blow and doesn't hesitate to jump in, to even Ralsei's surprise.

Susie knows about the prophecy vaguely, but in this moment, she is afraid they could die, she doesn't know if her strength will hold out to get them to the end. She doesn't know how long this will last, she doesn't know how long she can last or if it will be enough to help Kris and Ralsei make it to the end, but she still throws herself into the bullets in Kris's place.

Ralsei also jumps in for Susie when she's also down to one HP, which is wonderful but something about Susie not having the same assurances as Ralsei on knowing they have to survive this somehow really spoke to me. How Susie doesn't hesitate to protect her friends not knowing if they even can make it is why I personally love this scene. And we're only at the halfway point, I genuinely cannot wait to see how their friendships continue to grow as the chapters continue.

How chapter 4 of Deltarune should have gone

So I've been working on a longer theory/thoughts post for Chapters 3 and 4 of Deltarune and I have some wishful thinking/what I think would be narratively interesting I thought could be fun to share in a separate post purely for fun. Spoilers below.

As kick little background, I am firmly in the camp that Carol is manipulating Kris who is starting to really question their actions in the normal route and by earning Kris's trust is how we can get the best ending. I also am not in the camp that whatever happened to Dess is necessarily strongly Kris's fault, but that they have been manipulated by Carol to believe it is there fault so they are doing this to try and help save Dess out of an extreme sense of guilt.

I know Susie being the girl discussed in the prophecy, I think regardless if she was the originally intended prophesied members of the group, I would love to see her whenever Kris's dealings with the knight become known and potentially even the fact that the player has been controlling Kris, I would love to see her stubbornly cling onto hope that's been growing inside her. To see her hold onto the hope that she had Kris had something, that it wasn't just the player, that Kris isn't evil and their is a reason they are doing what they are doing, and that she can convince them to stop whatever they are doing and convince them to help her and Ralsei stop Carol and the Knight. Susie was able to forgive Queen and Tenna with barely knowing either of them, I want to believe that even if she has an initial reaction of anger, she will remember how many good times she had with Kris and fight for them circling back to chapter one with Kris and Ralsei fighting for her when she was working with Lancer.

At first I wasn't super fond of the Dess is the knight theory, but over time I've grown to love it. The painful conflict within Kris of desperately wanting to save a childhood friend, while also not wanting to see there new friends hurt and being torn apart and unsure what to do. I've also seen theories that the knight is technically Dess's body posessed by Kris's original soul which also could create an interesting painful scene of when the roaring comes and Dess can return and tell Kris to let go of her, she's gone and can't come back.

I will also accept a 'This is what it sounds like" esque scene specifically around the line "I don't know why I didn't trust you to be by my side" with the player soul glowing because Kris and the soul find common group after Susie and Ralsei leave them feeling betrayed and they all make up and stay bestest friends.

Admittedly a lot of my current forgiveness towards Kris is because I do feel like they are being extremely manipulated by Carol, and they are a kid, and in general I am just very willing to forgive kids But that is just me. Thought I list this all as wishful thinking or what I think would be cool narrative wise, I do believe Toby will come up with something far far better then I ever could and I know no matter what he does I will love it. (I will cry if the fun gang gets a bad ending, but I know it will be good and that I will stubbornly try and find a good ending for them) And you know what? Exploring alternate ideas you have, are why fanfics exist lolz. Regardless I am really excited to see what Toby has in store for us as I anxiously hope the death flags currently in the game are a red harring lolz.

Quick question since Google is not being helpful. As of chapter 4 what are the stat differences between recruiting enemies vs using violence and losing enemies? Or are they the same?
