Prologue
Round One
Credits:
Aimee decides to intervene. Unfortunately, she decides to do this in the most awkward way possible.
"You know, back when we were still orphan wanderers, Athol spent an entire day staring at a clam?"
"GAAAAAASSSSSSSP"
"...Oh, brother, is that awkwardness I hear?"
Athol: "You remind me of a sheep, standing in a field, who's just met another sheep..."
Renna: I swear to the Watcher I will end you if you say one more word about sheep.
Renna does not want to listen to Athol talk about the weather. Renna does not want to talk about shearing sheep, or the price of sheep, or the diseases of the sheep.
And Renna definitely does not want to listen to Athol's awkward, half-baked, sheep-centric compliments.
Athol invites Renna over to get to know her a little better and ask some questions. Questions about things like 'dowry prices' and 'her opinions on sheep'.
Unfortunately... while Renna is, technically, bisexual, she really doesn't seem to be all that interested in boys. She's happy to swoon over Athol from afar, but the second they start talking, she just gets this look on her face and starts to stare into the middle distance...
It might be that the only young men she knows are Athol and Pond Taverner, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
The Noogie Queen of the Seven Seas strikes again!
A portrait of joy, and a portrait of UTTER BETRAYAL.
It's dangerous to spend too much time on the beach- the coasts are infested with pirates- but there's an isolated cove that Aimee and Athol know pretty well, where they go to spend time alone together.
They call themselves twins, and no one really has the heart to challenge this.
After all, they're so much alike.
Aimee's Making Things herself, mind you. Knitting is one of the pastimes that Brighton deems 'suitable for a young lady', and it's easy enough to pick up just about anywhere.
She's spending a lot of time thinking about the future, especially because she's learned recently that she's been promised in marriage to Pond Taverner. Pond Fucking Taverner.
Financially, it makes sense, the Taverners are the wealthiest family in town that aren't nobles. But... Pond Taverner. No bride-price is worth that, even if it means Athol will be comfortable for a while. And what will the two of them do without her?
She wants something more than this provincial life... especially more than the parts of it that Brighton thinks are suitable for young girls.
Brighton's picked up a new hobby in his old age...
Allegedly, toymaking. According to Aimee, a descent into madness. He keeps painting faces on bricks, and then talking to them.
"...This is what I get for not staying home. >:("
Athol is scuncht about it, but thankfully, it's a very minor flu and by evening he feels much better.
"Uh-oh. Why do I hear the random encounter music?"
A wild Treant appears!
Renna attacks with her Makeshift Longbow!
And with a Combo Attack from Renna and Athol...
the treant is destroyed!
Athol, can't you find another girl who you think is pretty?
"...Lahna's not so bad either..."
Oh, good lord. If you were a TS4 Sim, Athol, you'd have a turn-on for Taken sims, wouldn't you?
Ah, never mind, he can't hear me.
Athol starts trying to make conversation.
Athol: So... uh... how about the weather? It's ... very pretty. As pretty as-
Renna: You don't want to finish that sentence.
Athol: Uh? Why not?
Renna: No reason.
Yep, Lahna (Renna's girlfriend, as of their last rotation) is right there. Athol. Athol, you are dense as a bag of rocks.
I sent Athol out here to try to have him make friends, you know, with some of the local boys? And maybe to find a sweetheart, but I wasn't hoping for it.
Unfortunately. Athol had other ideas.
Athol: RennaRennaRennaRenna?
Renna: Do I ... know you?
Athol: Renna. I mean. Uh. Hi.
I took this picture because I'd been building Wildwood as I needed it - a community lot here, a family home there, an encampment there- and I was so proud of the way that things were finally coming to life. We had actual locals! We had people using the facilities! Pond Taverner was laughing at the landscaping for no reason!
...It's been two years since I took this round of pictures, and so I've lost a little bit of the plot on what happened this far back. But I still love Wildwood so much and I love seeing how it grew.
One of these days, I'm going to finish rebuilding it.
Aimee knows full well that she's... competitive. Very, very competitive.
Brighton says that she's, perhaps, a bit too competitive, and that if she's not careful, someone's going to take her down a couple pegs one of these days. No one likes the noogie queen of the high seas, after all.
...Aimee, privately, thinks that she needs something to do about it. If she just had someone to compete with, about something that mattered- mayyybe she wouldn't need to pick fights with the other girls. But Brighton won't let her do anything interesting- not the archery or axe throwing competitions on the village green, not taking care of the sheep beyond bringing them hay every so often, and certainly not anything as crass as going into business. She's to be a lady someday, he says, and she needs to act like it.
It all leaves Aimee feeling very, very stuck.
Meanwhile, Athol and Brighton take advantage of Being Merchant Class to get some light reading done.
"Whoa! I can't believe that time can regularly stop for years on end with no repercussions on us! That's wild!"
