I'm so happy Kun got to join the celebrations and as a full member of the squad too. Because while he may not have played a minute in this tournament, he is part of that golden underperforming generation who wanted to bring glory to their country and who sweated and bled for it for years and always fell short. (Who wanted to bring it home for Leo and who knew above all else the toll the weight of that expectation took on Leo.)

He was never meant to retire the way he did - mid-season, due to heart problems, without closure - either. And this tournament, he may not have played but he was there for them, helping Emi Martinez practice his penalties, cheerleading, and even at the end sharing their room with Leo the way they have always done.

So what could be seen as 'shameless behaviour' in any other context is an act of care and an acknowledgement of all those years of hard and futile labour and of a squad sticking together. A modicum of closure even if it is not the real thing. This is just as much his cup too.
