Ma Teng would have turned even before his nephew finished calling him, but he had been preoccupied with one of the many horses he tended to at the stables. Once Shoucheng’s grip was secure on one of the reins, he craned his head to speak. “Ah, Nephew,” he greeted, unable to keep from breaking out into a smile, “You’ve been well, right? Ma Chao isn’t giving you any grief?”
