The key to writing good fanfiction is to harbor a deeply humiliating desire, and the trick there is that even pretty basic and societally-accepted desires like “being held” and “being wanted” CAN and WILL be humiliating if they’re intense enough. Become so estranged from human connection that the idea of someone playing with your hair fills you with yearning so deep you feel like you’re going to throw up and you will write some banger fanfiction. It might have some other consequences too but idrk about that.

For the fic title game: Drowning in You

jaskier centric fic where the fic starts with the scene of jaskier underwater and drowning and running out of breath but then there isnt anymore air so he inhales water and he's about to die and its finally peaceful after the stuggle against the water.

and in that peace we see vingettes of his life, how he started to follow geralt on the path finally free from the shackles of being in lettenhove, their first contract, the first time jaskier thought he was in love with geralt and understood how truly vibrant his life could be as contrasted to how it was when he grew up in lettenhove, the first time he acted on those feelings, the first time geralt said something back to reciprocate it, the first time they had sex and how it was such a similar feeling to drowning - how he felt overwhelmed with his affection for geralt that it filled his chest just how the water was now filling his lungs. a few more similar scenes.

In the end, a hand reaches out to bring jaskier back to the surface and we see geralt frantically giving jaskier CPR to bring him back to life while theyre surrounded by a huge flock of dead drowners and geralt's covered in blood basically begging and pleading for the universe to not take away one of the few good things he was able to find and hold on to for so long.

of course jaskier wakes up and they hug and have an emotional moment after jaskier's close brush with death.
