i really love how griffith is written in the second half of the manga. He’s almost always framed alone, isolated, standing off in the distance looking out at the horizon. He’s accomplishing incredible things, changing the world, making so many people’s lives better and not one bit of it moves him or touches his heart. He’s surrounded by new followers, and even people like sonia and charlotte who genuinely love him yet you never see a single real emotion from him. He emptied himself of real connections the day he betrayed everyone who loved him. All he has left is a hollow dream. He gets everything he ever wanted and cant even crack a real smile over it.

The final reveal of the manga being that he was literally so empty and sad in his new life that he’d been showing up as the mystery kid just to interact with Guts and Casca in a non hostile setting again. I’m sure that was at least partially because the soul of the child of guts and casca inside him wanted that, but griffith still let it happen. He play acted out this grotesque game of house just to get a shadow of the love he once threw away. How deeply pathetic and sad. When you compare it to Guts and Casca healing, finding a new family, and moving on its quite poetic. Congratulations king of the world, the empty throne is yours and all it cost was everything that would have made it feel worth it.
