Yuuki directly admits that she had been harboring romantic feelings for Kaname. However, the English translation renders 恋してた as “in love with,” which flattens the nuance of 恋してた and isn’t entirely accurate.
and Why Hino Matsuri chose that specific wording when Yuuki first confesses to Kaname, especially when there are so many different ways in Japanese to express romantic feeling?
To avoid any misreading or distortion of her feelings for Kaname: when she says her heart was split in two, it reflects how both emotions were still koi (恋)—simple, unformed, not yet fully matured into something heavier.
Only later, after Kaname’s Memory Arc, does that feeling slowly deepen into ai (愛), becoming more complex, more irreversible. So she names their child Ai Kuran, because koi (恋) is no longer enough to hold what her feelings for Kaname have become.
The four former editors of Vampire Knight and Vampire Knight Memories each chose their favorite manga scenes and shared them as farewell messages in Lala Magazine DX (2025/09, Hakusensha).
The current editor chose VKM Vol. 11’s title, “Memories from You,” where Kaname awakens to his true self and his desires. The other editors picked Zero’s first bite of Yuuki, Kaname’s rebirth as a human, and Kaien’s death.

The Editors and Hino Matsuri summarized the entire VKM story with the phrase:

幾星霜(ikuseisou): It is a poetic, somewhat archaic Japanese compound (literally meaning "how many stars and frosts") used to reflect on the long passage of time, enduring through seasons, or recalling the heavy weight of history.
And Hino used this phrase twice for Kaname and Yuuki:
「さぁ、この手をとって。」
"Come, take this hand of mine."
「幾星霜の話をしよう。」
“Let us speak of countless years of stars and frost.”
「罪の告白のように、愛を告げる。」
"Confessing love, as if whispering a confession of sin."
So putting it together, the time here is not just something that passes, but something endured and survived, carried like memory itself: beautiful, heavy, and impossible to undo.
「さぁ、この手をとって。幾星霜の話をしよう。」 "Come, take my hand. Let us speak of tales that span countless years of stars and frost." In the visual layout, Kaname is shown enveloped by shadows in the corner, while Yuuki arrives carrying light and blue roses.(In nature, true blue roses cannot exist, as roses lack the gene for blue pigment. Blue roses were originally said to symbolize the impossible: things that could never exist, miracles that would never be realized, desires forever out of reach. So when Yuuki approaches Kaname carrying light and blue roses, she brings a miracle to him.)Her presence softly glows as she reaches out her hand to the man who had always been hiding alone in the darkness, inviting him, at last, to speak of the desires he had buried for thousands of years.
And this time, he did.
「目覚めのキスのように。罪の告白のように、愛を告げる。」 "Just like an awakening kiss. Confessing love, as if whispering a confession of sin.". Kaname has always seen his desire for Yuuki as a sin. But Yuuki reaches out her hand and asks him to speak it aloud. What was once guilt becomes a confession of love, and the soul that spent ten thousand years alone in the darkness is finally allowed to step into the warmth and light of the world she created for him.
They disappeared together. Never apart again.
And so the story of 「幾星霜の愛」 finally reaches its conclusion.

The adults tried to separate them once.

“Wouldn’t it be better if she remained at home while you attend school my lord?” One particularly brave noble asked Kaname one evening. “After all, she is still so much younger than the other students.”
That was certainly true. Yuki was younger than even the youngest student in the Night Class. By several years at least. But Kaname wouldn’t hear of leaving her alone at home. The idea was absolutely unthinkable.
“I assure you I will make sure she settles into her new surroundings.”
But the noble would not be dissuaded.
“Perhaps the lady would be happier amongst children her own age. I myself have a young daughter who would make her a fine companion. We would be honored to watch over her for you while you’re away. I promise you she will want for nothing.”
Kaname stared at the other vampire silently, wondering where such a creature had gotten the audacity to tell him what to do with his sister. He was young, yes, but that didn’t mean anyone was allowed to think themselves his better, least of all some noble who thought himself clever by offering to foster a pureblood. His superior.
He must have thought Kaname completely ignorant to his machinations. Too young and naive to possibly understand what handing over his sister meant for a noble. The power and influence one could wield simply by having her in their household. Over other nobles. Over vampire society as a whole. But most especially, over the head of the Kuran family himself.
Such a thing could never be allowed.
“That won’t be necessary.”
The other—lesser, Kaname’s mind inserted viciously—vampire struggled not to argue outright.
“But, my lord. Surely—”
“No.” The pureblood said, this time with far more force. His tone made it clear this conversation was over.
“…As you say, Lord Kaname.”
Later, there would be rumors about that noble and his family. How they retreated from society in disgrace. How the patriarch resigned from his position on the council, shamed and humiliated.
“I never liked him.” Yuki declares one night when the news reaches them.
“Yes,” Kaname confessed, pulling her close. “Neither did I.”

“Brother?”
“Yes, my love?”
“Promise you’ll never love anyone else.”
Kaname set his pen down and gave his sister—who was sitting sullenly in an armchair across the room—his full attention.
“What is this about?” He asked quietly. He searched his mind for something—anything—that could have triggered this, but came up noticeably blank. Yuki was his world. His sole reason to live. If anything should ever happen to her he would do everything in his power to follow her into the netherworld as quickly as possible.
So why then was she now demanding assurances of devotion from him?
Yuki glared at him, kicking her feet against the antique rug, but stayed petulantly silent. No matter. Kaname would simply wait her out. His sister was many things, but patient had never been one of them.
Sure enough, after a very stifling ten minutes, she finally blurted out, “I saw you talking to Ruka!”
Kaname stilled, caught off guard. Ruka? What did Ruka have anything to do with this?
But then he remembered.
Ruka, beautiful and blonde and everything his sister was not, throwing herself at his feet and offering her body up for his pleasure the night before. After all, she had said, he was a grown adult now—both by vampire standards as well human ones—and it was expected that he would have…needs. Needs his still very young betrothed could not be expected to satiate.
Not yet anyway.
Kaname sighed.
Oh dear. It seemed his little sister had gotten the wrong idea entirely.
“It’s just…” Yuki continued, ignorant of her brother’s tumultuous inner dialogue. “She’s so much prettier and older than me. Sometimes I…I worry that you’ll get tired of me…”
“No.”
The word is said with such force that Yuki is startled into silence. She stares at her brother with those large, luminous dark eyes of hers and Kaname can’t help but open his arms in invitation. Almost instantly he finds his lap full of his warm, squirming sister as she presses her nose to his neck and paws at the wool of his sweater like a cat that needs soothing.
“I could never tire of you Yuki,” he says, less of a reply and more of a proclamation. “You are everything. No one else matters. Not Ruka. Not any of the other girls who come to me. No one. I don’t want any of them, do you understand? There is only you and me.”
“But—”
But Kaname would not be swayed.
“Only you and me,” he murmured into her hair, hands clutching her tight to his chest. “That is what we told one another yes? That we would be just like mother and father? And so we shall.”

It’s Yuuki who pushes him into it in the end.
It’s always Yuuki really. Kaname didn’t think he was capable of denying her anything. Even this.
Especially this.
At first it was innocent. She came to him at fourteen begging for kisses after seeing her peers stealing them in the hallways.
“Can I?” She would ask sweetly, eyes wide. The very picture of innocence. “Just one kiss Brother…”
But then one kiss would turn into two. Two would turn into three. And then kisses soon turned into touches. And touches…
“Can I?” Yuuki would ask, fingers trailing over the buttons of his shirt. “I want to see...”
And before he could stop himself he was unbuttoning his shirt just to feel the warmth of her hands sliding over his bare skin like trails of fire.
“Can I?” She would ask again at fifteen as she tugged at his belt before later fisting his burning cock in her hand as he gasped.
He reciprocated whenever she let him—pressed kisses to her throat and breasts and touched tentatively at that secret place between her legs—but mostly she was the curious one. The eager one who led every encounter with that heady mixture of shyness and boldness that was so quintessentially Yuuki.
“Can I?” She would whisper whenever she had him laid out on their bed, supine and helpless to her attentions as she traced her fingers along his nude body. And all he could do was nod. To do otherwise was anathema to him.
He was hers after all. Hers to touch. Hers to explore. Hers to do with as she pleased.
“Can I?” She would ask once more, this time at sixteen as she climbed atop his lap and rubbed herself against him, ripping a groan from his chest.
“Can I?” She would ask again as she slotted his cock into that place he dreamed about almost every day. That first push inside of her was like nothing else. Hot and tight and perfect in a way he couldn’t even begin to describe.
And when he bit into her neck and tasted her, all he could think was, Let us be this way forever.

She’s technically too young to really attend the Night Class, but that doesn’t stop her in the slightest. After all, whatever Yuuki—spoiled pureblood princess that she was—wants Yuuki gets. She’s still such a tiny thing when they enter the Moon Dorm for the first time, barely twelve and far too eager and curious for her own good.
“I can’t believe I’ll get to see humans!” She giggles to her brother when she’s fitted for her uniform later.
“You remember our rules don’t you?”
She pouted. “Yeah yeah, no biting humans.”
“And?”
“Be polite?”
“Good girl.” Kaname praised her, smoothing his hand over her hair and then kissing the top of her head.
She hummed and smiled at him—that perfect little smile that she only ever shared with him and made his heart twist inside his chest.
“Don’t worry Brother,” she confessed, patting his cheek affectionately. “I don’t want to drink from anyone but you.”
Just the mere thought of her drinking from anyone else—the inferior blood of another touching her lips—makes his skin buzz with disquiet.
“Good,” he said, a little too honest. “None of them are good enough for you anyway.”
“Mmm,” she agreed, pulling him down so she could skim her teeth along the skin of his throat. “I bet they don’t taste as good as you anyway.”
And then she sinks her teeth into his neck—oblivious to the scandalized glances of her tailor—and Kaname clutches her close.
“That’s it,” he murmurs into her hair with a smile. “I can give you what you need.”

So you hate Zero and Zeki, and you actively delete comments from fans who want to discuss or who don’t fully agree with your interpretation. Most of your takes come across as heavily yume-biased, to the point where you downplay the importance of a main character, which is honestly baffling.
And yet, the fandom is supposed to trust your timeline, scans and translation work? That doesn’t add up. You’re far too biased to be seen as a reliable source.
Yes.
Because the timeline isn't mine, it was posted by an official publisher. And you choosing to ignore the work of a neutral publisher exposes YOUR bias, not mine.
As for the translation work, what you people fail to realise is that ERS' translator also used to work with AEF before they shut down. So if you didn't have a problem with the translator's work when they were at AEF, why did it suddenly become a problem when they joined ERS? Again, this exposes YOUR bias, not mine.
Quite frankly, I have no interest in debating any aspect of this series with bad faith actors which is why I delete comments from my edits and asks from my inbox. Forget the ERS translations, if you cannot accept what is written in the official volumes or by neutral publishers, why on Earth would I waste my time debating you.
