I've been thinking about JiuHuo rescently, specifically about the infamous Qin Jiu line:

"I'm not here to save you, I'm here to love you."

I just think it's such a beautiful way to sum up their relationship and what they mean to each other.

You Huo didn't need saving, he had it all figured out. He wasn't buying the System's bullshit, he and Chu Yue were already planning a way out and how to take it down. Even if Qin Jiu didn't appear, You Huo would have tried many times to escape and destroy the System. That's not what Qin Jiu was for.

Qin Jiu also wasn't someone who is supposed to save You Huo from loneliness or his bad childhood. You Huo had friends, he was never truly alone. The bond that he and Chu Yue share is so deep and so special to him (him and Qin Jiu literally ran to her room after waking up and seeing each other when everything was over, because they were so worried for her). And he has put his childhood behind. Of course there are memories that still hurt him and affect him but he knew when to seperate the past and move on. He doesn't let that hurt affect him much in his day to day life (besides his eyes).

No Qin Jiu's role is neither of those. He's there to simply love You Huo. To love him in an unconditional way, in an unexpected way, in a meaningless way. There was no reason for Qin Jiu to fall for him or vice versa, it simply happened. They didn't need to have a big understanding of each other or some life changing event for that love to blossom, their souls just simply found each other and they never let go. They were each other's missing piece. You Huo just needed his love and to give that love back in return. And that's exactly what Qin Jiu offers.

He supports him, he joins him in his madness, shares his madness, all of that simply because he loves him.

On a moshang kick but there's just something extremely compelling about the idea of Mobei Jun spending years expecting Shang Qinghua to betray him, getting impatient waiting for the axe to drop, deliberately creating opportunities for Shang Qinghua to betray him, still no betrayal happens, until eventually it gets to the point where Shang Qinghua has like, the fantastical demon king equivalent of Mobei Jun's credit card numbers and a joint account and free access to his bedroom and food and a great big cabinet full of poison and his detailed schedule and the exact time when he'll be bathing naked with no weapons under the moonlight at the one time every five years when all ice demons temporarily lose their powers for a full night and etc etc. Mobei Jun is doing trust falls (even though he doesn't know it) but Shang Qinghua just keeps catching him.

Until the whole lack of explicit communication and cultural differences thing explodes, and even then the big betrayal that finally happens is that Shang Qinghua saves Mobei Jun's life but then LEAVES HIM, he GOES AWAY, he doesn't even push Mobei into his own metaphorical abyss he just goes "this isn't worth putting up with anymore" and forces Mobei Jun to confront the fact that in his determination to be reassured he actually failed to prove himself to Shang Qinghua in return, which reduces Mobei Jun to a shattered wreck struggling to figure out how to fix it.

I see so many people make posts moshang posts like “Mobei-jun is the most handsome gorgeous guy, and Shang Qinghua’s a greasy haired rat.” And cool love that, but I think it’d way funnier in reverse, but he still viewed it the other way.

Like Shang Qinghua is bragging about managing to seduce such an amazing husband and people have to take mental damage every time he’s like “I’m so ugly and still he loves me and cares for me!” Dozens of humans and demons have tried to defeat Mobei-Jun for Shang Qinghua’s hand because no way that beast seduced him.

He’s pulled into a meeting with his martial siblings and Luo Binghe (This is the only time they’ll get along) to ask if he’s being threatened into the relationship and that they’d deal with it even Luo Binghe tells him that if he’s being hurt to just tell them and he’ll deal with it. Shang Qinghua is left utterly confused, and it just keeps happening because people just keep popping in for welfare checks. This is unintentionally (somewhat intentionally) cockblocking them. When Mobei-Jun brags everyone is like how did you get even manage to pull that? So many people have sworn loyalty to him just so they may be blessed with knowledge on how to have such amazing pull.

People speak of it as if it’s legend, Mobei-Jun is proud, somehow Shang Qinghua doesn’t realize the truth and genuinely believes Mobei-Jun is the most handsome man, and that he’s an ugly rat. The entire relationship is horribly confusing for every witness. When it’s revealed they’re gonna have a kid together so many tears are shed it almost creates a new lake caused by pity and grief.
