Women and borders
Alot of people still don't comprehend their heads around how borders have remained both a cause and contributing factor to sexual violence against women throughout patriarchal history. M3n come with their militant armies, lead wars, displace and force women out from their ancestral homes, colonize and eradicate cultures all because an imaginary border line gives them a sense of power and authority over weak oppressed populations especially women.
For women, it's a loss of their identity as their identity is dictated by m3n. One moment in history she was part of a different nation and now with an addition of a new border line, her identity is dictated differently. Borders don't divide m3n, I have never believed it, instead borders divide women among m3n. They symbolize m3n's ownership of women. So whenever a war breaks out between two countries sharing a border, each side of m3n plans to violate women of the other side.
As a South Asian women, I saw and know about women who were forced to migrate and leave their homes during partition for the sake of m3n's satisfaction of ego. A drawing of a line changed their whole lives, m3n delude women with the idea of freedom in form of a new border but in reality it's only m3n exercising their power over women. M3n had enmity with each other but women were brutalized and sacrificed.
Women who were married to the other side of the border could never see their families again. They were trapped and did not have any support. Women who were forced to carry the child of their rapists were societally ostracized, many were forced into prostitution and many took their own lives.
The stories of all these women got lost, they were snatched off the agency to tell their own stories, while history books remained full of soldiers and people glorifying how their m3n fought the wars.
It's also interesting that m3n have the same rights all over the world but rights of the women change within and outside borders. The whole idea of borders is US vs THEM, and because women are oppressed everywhere, no country ever saves women both within and outside borders under the excuse of territorial sovereignty.
I don't see women as part of different nations and countries considering that they are the only oppressed group with no territory or country of their own. When you impose nationalities on women, you ignore their exclusive oppression that is sex-based. So when a certain group of women is trying to escape an authoritative fascist misogynist government and attempting to seek asylum in another country, she is considered of OTHER nation, her humanity is dehumanized and she isn't considered worthy of safety. These escaping migrating women are put in detention centres, sexually violated and then put into refugee camps. Not many women have the financial resources to get a visa to move to another country, so consequently they find themselves in prisons after prisons.
Bordering is also a deliberate attempt by m3n to keep women imprisoned and limit their movement. Everyone knows that people committing crimes on borders are m3n, still no one holds m3n accountable but what they actually do is continue violating women. This includes border policem3n, army m3n, migrant m3n and refugee m3n.
Bordering is supposed to limit m3n's movement, instead it creates a system where m3n violate women with impunity.
M3n violate women within and outside borders. Borders don't protect women. Borders are drawn by m3n for them to forcefully own land, nature and women. Drawing of borders is also historical because borders have never been the same throughout time, they are the result of colonialism, conquests and wars led by m3n. The new nationalities were not chosen by women, they were either forced or born into it. True feminism vouches for women's safety everywhere regardless of borders. Denying safety to women because of "territorial sovereignty" is a m@le-centred action
